Hi Janet,
You unfortunately turn off the printer when initializing process on going. In this process the printer accessing internal command in the processor and checking all of parts statuses. It is critical!. I am afraid you broke the main board of the printer. Sorry to say that.

In the control panel is shows a check mark under faxes on my MX700 printer but no check mark on the printer. I did not change this but I did turn the printer off 2 days ago, (something I never do) because...

I cannot find any reference to the check mark you describe. However i would think it may refer to a document that maybe in the machines memory. See if you can print a memory list in reports. The hang up receiver is strange. As far as i know the machine does not talk so someone else said it. I would suggest turning off the machine but you done this. Was the ringing sound the ring of an incoming call?

I am really puzzled at this one and await your further post.

The power light is not coming on but printer is making noises when plugged in.

Not sure if it's the same problem as yours or not..... Even when the printer is turned off, it will make a noise about once an hour or so. It sounds like the print heads 'un-park' then park themselves again. Strange......

My Printer wont print or scan!! It makes strange sounds when it turns on and off. Please help!!

Try to check and observe plastic gear may some of them broke or worn-out, of course scanning not work if error indicated on the machine. This occurs mostly on all in one printer scanner machine.

Problems with Brother MFC-7820N Laser Printer turns itself off

I just had same issue, it shared an outlet with a large volume work group copier, I unplugged it, opened and closed all compartments to make sure something open was not causing issues. I plugged it into different outlet and it appears to be back online. I have read some postings that this model has been known to draw over 15 amps. Its possible its starving for power. To test take to another room, plug in outlet by itself and see if it boots up.

Printer won't feed and makes a strange grinding sound

Its probably just old and worn out. They dont even make bubble jet printers anymore. Printers are cheap now anyway. Go to and you can get a printer for around 50 dollars.

Epson C64 Printer

It sounds like the print head is jamming on the parking mechanism (usually because the actuation lever is stuck in the up position). Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves, pull the power cord out of the back, or switch it off at the mains. You should now be able to move the print head over to the left by hand out of the way. Now look in the "parking bay" at the right end where the print head parks itself and see if there is a plastic arm sticking up. If there is, gently pull it towards you and it should spring down. Now turn the printer back on and it should operate normally. If it happens again, repeat the process a few times to see if it clears the problem. Otherwise it means the parking mechanism is gummed up with dried ink and needs a good clean (see below).

Alternatively, if you see that the whole parking mechanism itself has moved up to block the way, this means a spring has come off. To get this back on again requires the printer to be dismantled - as does the cleaning job above!

Should you decide to have a go at cleaning or re-fixing the spring, let me know via a new posted comment so I can provide further assistance.

Printer wont feed paper on one side

This may sound strange, but it works more often than not. Try unplugging it, turning it upside down and shaking it vigorously. Also, take some canned air and spray into where it feeds the paper. Just be careful not to spray into the ink-head.

Problem printing with Lexmark X1270

Are you using firewall software? It sounds strange, but for some reason the computer can't talk to the printer unless you "Allow" access to the printer software. Try to reset your firewall software so it will prompt you again and make sure you choose "Always Allow".
