When connecting a digital camera to your computer with the usb connector, then turning it on the memory card in the camera becomes a removable drive under My Computer and will also bring up a dialogue window that will ask if you want to import pictures, etc. There is no need for a driver. There are no known free downloads. If you know anyone who has a Canon camera, you can use their disk. You do not need to have the software to connect to your computer and download. You can use the default scanner and camera wizard to download. If you are unable to do this, check the Canon website drivers and download section for your model to see if there are any driver updates for your Operating System. However if this is not a connection issue and you just want to have the software, you should try calling Canon to order the disk for under $20, I believe. Then you will be able to update the software from www.powershot.com once you have the original version.
You are able to connect the camera and download without the software as long as the driver is there. Try going to www.powershot.com to download the latest driver update for your camera and your operating system.
