Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV330 Digital Camcorder

4 Answers

Camcorder zooms by itself.

TRV330 slowley zooms to wide.I zoom it back to close but as soon as I take my finger off the zoom button or the remote control, it zooms back to wide. Sometimes flipping the zoom button on the camera will stop it from zooming to wide.Several times shutting the camera off then back on stopped the zooming. Sometimes nothing I do will stop it, and it just stops by itself. Sometimes the zoom just won't work, with the camera zoom button or the remote control. Unpluging the remote has no effect. Several times I removed the battery and put it back in and it stopped. Is this a hardware problem in the zoom button contacts or a solid state device problem? What kind of cost for repair should I expect? Will the entire flexible PC board have to be replaced, or can a component be repaired?

I've done a lot of electronic work, including the complete disassembly of my Sony analog 8 camcorder to trace down an audio problem. My only concern is, can i do anything about the problem without replacing the button bar. Is the problem a loose connection on the button bar or connecting plug? Thanks for your quick response.

I would prefer to repair the problem myself if it can be done without replacing the button board. If I need to replace the button board, where can I get one for the lowest price? I've tried to buy parts from Sony before and could not without being an official Sony Repair Shop.

Thanks to both responders. Since the problem is intermittent, there most likely will not be a readable voltage on the board's output when I check it. Possibly moving parts and wires around I can find the culprit that is causing the problem. Nonetheless, I will clean all contacts and make sure they are being secured properly. Any suggestions as to which area the problem would most likely be? Thanks.

Sorry but the website you listed only sells accessories like batteries and such. They do not sell parts. If I need a new button board, where can I buy one? Sony just doesn't want to sell to anyone but an authorized Sony Service facility. I had the same problem with the audio board on my analog 8 camcorder, they don't sell them. I needed a connector extension so I could turn the double sided board over while connected to the main flexible circuit board. There was a loose connection on one of the rf coils that cut out the sound when the board was flexed. I couldn't get to the components with it plugged in, so couldn't localize it to a single coil. I thought I would just replace the board but could not find anywhere to buy the board, they just wanted me to send it in and have it repaired by a Sony Authorized Service person.

Where can I purchase a new button board for the camcorder? Is this a common problem, and if it is, where is it most often shorted out? Thanks for any help you can give.

Unfortunately, the board is not available for sale. This kind of repair is only undertaken at a service center. You could however, try to buy a second hand piece from say Ebay, and try from there..But the only option apart from a second hand purchase would be a service call..

Sounds like the button is connecting or not springing back like it should. You should be able just to replace the zoom button and just would need to rewire and reconnect it to the camera. The manufacturer should be able to send you a new button. The pieces are so small in cameras, that one piece can easily break off. Let me know of any further questions that you may have on this

More then a problem with the main board, or with zooms gears it looks like a problem with buttons.
If you have already taken apart the camera, grab a multimeter and thest the output from button board. I am sure on one contact you will find some continuos voltage that is what activates the zoom.

opening the cam by yourself will make you loose the warranty and also its a very delicate job. and hence needs utmost care and good experience while handling it.

it makes me feel that the camera software may be corrupted. because if it is a problem with some particular component then every time you try different things the problem must happen in the same way.

but your case is not like that.

the problem differs in each and every case when you try different things.

and hence this is a software problem i guess.

also if you are able to clear it in a hard reset its fine else you will have to take some help of service people to reinstall the software.

    thank you

    good luck

    have a great day

My Elura somehow is zooming in all the time. I can back it out slowly but as soon as I take my finger off - it zooms in again. Please let me know how to fix this. Thanks

the zoom in rocker is stuck, its a physical problem, you need to try cleaning it with surgical alcohol and an ear bud. or take it to a camera repair shop.

Canon Elura 60 zooms by itself

Listen, I know it's a couple of years after this post but, try this: Remove cassette, push to close, close camera as if to use it, hold firmly in left hand, open hand slap it with your right hand once or twice, (I'm not joking) it worked the two times I had this problem. Problems with the zoom? Almost same process, push firmly on zoom button (to un-zoom) try doing this as your tapping it. These are last ditch efforts on an aging camera, it really has been a good one. I've put this poor thing through years of abuse, and it's held up pretty well. Good luck, Jeff S.

Zoom problem

Ive seen this three times and everytime its been something differant. Fist was the rocker switch was jammed. easy fix as dirt was in there. Second was a small serface maounted capacitor in the zoom interface circuit. An third never found the problem as we thought it was a limit switch in the lens itself but the customer never paid for a new lens assy so we didnt order it. Good luck
