Black text boxes appearing as people are speaking

I cannot get the written text boxes to stop aopearing when people are speaking. Tuner window of menu (where you are supposed to be able to fix this) will not light up. Comcast is the provider.

Black square on screen

Look both in the set's menu and that of a box if used; Under closed captions in either place look for a setting labeled TEXT, that is what is bringing up the black box, feature never really used much, find TEXT in either set menu or box menu if you use one, either place can cause this, not a problem just the text feature is on. Turn it off with the remote.

I have a big black rectangle on my screen and it wont go away.

If you have a black box in middle of screen go into menu and look for Closed Captions----one of the options there will be TEXT which is a feature never really used for transmitting books and written material.....

In that menu turn the Text off or not on Text 1 and box should go off.

This usually happens by accident but is common.

A black box covers my screen

Look in menu for TV (also in menu for a box if being used) under CLOSED CAPTIONS---LOOK FOR TEXT there--switch text off--and remember a box can also have this feature.

It was designed for sending written images like books etc. but never really caught on--Usually it will only appear on certain channels like in the USA PBS etc.

Black Box in the lower portion of the screen will not disappear

Check your Closed Captioning settings in the menu. I would bet money you have the "Text" feature enabled. Change it to OFF and you should be all set. I hope this was of some assistance.

Having a black screen in the middle of the picture only on a certain channel

Go into the customer menu and select closed captions--there will be an option for CC1 etc--box in middle of the screen means somehow TEXT 1 WAS SELECTED--the idea here was they would have books or written material on certain programs like PBS--select once that you find TEXT is highlighted or select OFF or something else other than TEXT.

Very common problem on a lot of sets---it only appears on some channels because not many ever offered it for use.

If this helps you rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

Black box when tv is on and going through channels

This worked on my tv...give it a try:

go into your menu and find closed caption, someone has accidently set the closed caption mode to text, when the on screen display of channel or volume goes away the box appears. turn off the closed caption feature or switch it to something other than "text" mode, and your box will go away.

A black box is covering half of screen

Look in the menu for the "captions" heading. Once in the closed captions, turn off the "text" heading. This text mode is putting up the black box on the tv
