Look both in the set's menu and that of a box if used; Under closed captions in either place look for a setting labeled TEXT, that is what is bringing up the black box, feature never really used much, find TEXT in either set menu or box menu if you use one, either place can cause this, not a problem just the text feature is on. Turn it off with the remote.
If you have a black box in middle of screen go into menu and look for Closed Captions----one of the options there will be TEXT which is a feature never really used for transmitting books and written material.....
In that menu turn the Text off or not on Text 1 and box should go off.
Go into the customer menu and select closed captions--there will be an option for CC1 etc--box in middle of the screen means somehow TEXT 1 WAS SELECTED--the idea here was they would have books or written material on certain programs like PBS--select once that you find TEXT is highlighted or select OFF or something else other than TEXT.
Very common problem on a lot of sets---it only appears on some channels because not many ever offered it for use.
If this helps you rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.
go into your menu and find closed caption, someone has accidently set the closed caption mode to text, when the on screen display of channel or volume goes away the box appears. turn off the closed caption feature or switch it to something other than "text" mode, and your box will go away.
