Fix error 301

Do you know how to access your computer's BIOS settings? It sounds to me like an advanced setting called "Hard Disk Boot Sequence" (or just "Book Sequence") may be mis-set. Normally, the setting would be HD first, then CD, then etc-etc-etc down to usually last of all, Floppy Drive. It sounds very much to me like yours is set to boot the floppy drive ahead of the HD.

When your computer is starting up, watch carefully for writing on the screen (usually top-left or along the bottom) that says "Enter Setup" - and press the key it says. I don't have my Thinkpad any more, and there were numerous contributors when I searched this for you, but most said "Hold down F1" while powering on and keep it down until a long beep" - Others said that if you can get to a DOS prompt do so and press CTRL-ALT-F11.

THE MAIN THING HERE IS THIS: BE CAREFUL IN SETUP. This is one place where you can cause yourself a lot of grief.. If you don't find the boot sequence screen (or if you do, and it's OK) write back with more information. BEST OF LUCK! We're here to help.

When I press F8 key and it's not giving a option to restore my computer

No bootable device means the system cannot boot from where ever you are trying to boot. If you have something in the CD Drive other than a Repair Disc or Operating System Disc remove it.

Try booting from your hard drive. Turn off the computer then turn it back on and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Sequence or Boot Order. Hit that key when you see the message or you will have to start over. Select the Hard Drive as your boot device. If you get a message about an unbootable device then you will need to run the Check Disk Utility. If it boots, then you will need to make a permanent change to the Boot Sequence or Boot Order.

To make a permanent change turn the computer off, then turn it back on and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. When you see the message, hit the key otherwise you will have to reboot and start over. When the Bios or System Setup window opens tab over and Change the Boot Order or Boot Sequence and save your changes.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Boot sequence for compaq evo n800 laptop

You need a system disk first of all. Put the disk in the drive, turn the computer off then reboot. Watch the screen for which key it says to hit to change the boot sequence or boot order. Hit that key when it is shown. This is a one time solution that is only for the current boot process.

To make it permanent, boot the computer an notice what keys it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when shown. You can change the boot sequence or boot order and make it a permanent change in the bios. The most common and best boot sequence is to have the CD drive 1st and the Hard Drive 2nd. Just make sure no disk is in the cd drive when you boot it up or you will get a error saying no boot record or system disk found.

When I turn on my E1505 it goest to Dell Media Direct Express. It will not allow me to go anywhere else. HELP!!!!!

If you have your Dell OEM XP/Vista disc, then boot up and insert it and shut down again. Push the start button and rapidly tap the F12 key until you're in boot selection. Select the DVD player and hit enter, then at he prompt "hit any key to start from cd" do so. Let Windows Setup take you all the way to where you have the option to hit the R key to repair. Do so. You'll be in a DOS environment so at the prompt, type FIXBOOT and hit enter. If this does not fix the problem, repeat the process and next time at the prompt type FIXMBR and hit enter(Master Boot Record). Either one of these may restore your default Boot sequence and get you out of being stuck in Media Direct.

Good Luck

Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS Motherboard

Hi You need to make sure that your boot sequence sets to boot from hard drive first. Also, make sure that the hard drive sequence has the hard drive enabled. If this does not work, then let me know so I can give another suggestion.
