Ginko's comments seem good, but I can't find any menu where I can switch off 'print single sheets' - thanks again.

  • sathomps Jul 24, 2008

Sorry - Pagebor's solution doesn't address the problem. The door closes just fine - it's that I can't print or scan from a BOOk, because I get an error message saying 'door open' - which of course it IS - because there's a book in there that I want to print from! Looking forward to your help in printing/scanning from a book. Thanks, S.T.

I can't print or scan or fax anything that isn't a sheet or two of paper, such as a book.

The solutions FixYa has sent so far don't address the problem. I have no problem closing the door on the printer. The door closes just fine - it's that I can't print or scan from a BOOK, because I get an error message saying 'door open' - which of course it IS - because there's a book in there that I want to print from! Looking forward to your help in printing/scanning from a book. Thanks, S.T.

Open the cover the entire way and your problem will most likely be solved. You may get some garbage around the edges of what you are copying because there is no white background thought. My kids copy homework all the time this way. The scanner says open door when the lid is partially closed but does not if you leave it up the whole way. Hope this helps

On these models there is supposed to be a lid adjustment for scanning books. I looked all over, but couldn't find the adjuster or a "how to" for the adjuster, just that there is an adjuster. It's possible that it's out of adjustment.

Make sure you do all of these:

Divide books into categories: books that will lie flat and books that will not. Accept that a book cannot be scanned if text refuses to lie flat and curves into the center.
Understand that textbook publishers sometimes intentionally make text flow close to the center to make copying challenging.
Push down on the book's spine to get the text to lie flat.
Remove binding when possible to force a book to lie flat on the copier, when scanning books other than library books. Separate pages first. Use wood glue to reattach neatly. Cut pages later.
Understand that a separated book is valuable after scanning. Realize reading a separated book is often easier to read than a book where you have to keep the pages open.

Hope that helps........

It won't let you scan if it senses the cover/door is open (which is true 'cause there's a book).

Simply put, that equipment can't do "regular scanners/copiers" can. It has a sensor, regular one's don't.

You can only refer to your user manual if there's such option to turn OFF the sensor feature which I doubt built-in.

Should try restoreing the printer to factory default settings, also. if that doesn't solve the problem there may be a faulty sensor in the printer.

Aha, book, in that case you need to make sure the doorsensor gets signal that the door is closed. theres a switch or a sensor somewhere which needs to be pressed or covered when the door is closed, you need todo this yourself somehow, you need to press some button or cover a sensor.. dont know where it is really, would need to buy a service manual to figure that one.

Plz check the door is closing down correctly, the sensor which is responsible for the door close operation might be not working correctly, just open your printer and check for any loose connection or broken parts

Here is the User Guide , check at page 61:

    Change scan settings
    To change scan settings

    • HP Device Manager (Mac OS): Launch HP Device Manager, click Information
and Settings, and then select Scan Preferences from the drop-down list.

    • Windows: Open the device software, select Settings, select Scan Settings and
Preferences, then select from the available options and make your selections.

By the way the scanner mannual does not mention in any place that you can scan multiple sheet without manual feeding.
If you do not find the option for single/multiple sheed in scan settings as in my last post, this means that it will require manual feeding at each scan, as it does not have multi scan paper feeding.

I MAKE A COPY AND I GET MY COPY BUT I ALSO GET A BLANK SHEET.

See if your copier has "Book mode" if so it's scanning you original and looking and scanning for an open book, i.e. page left on glass and page Right (two) on glass. Like you had a book flattened out on the glass. Make any since? #2 possible malfunction in print button. #3. Are sheets coming out stuck together or do they appear to be two separate scans?

Bizhub C652 has horizontal lines.

its important to find out whether the \'lines\' are in scan direction/ or only through Radf or only from scan glass,

if the lines are only showing when documents are fed throught the Radf, then the problem lies with the document scan plate( left of the main glass platen (about 2" in width)) or with the scan plate blade cleaner

if the lines ONLY appear when copying from the Glass then the issue lies within the optics (probably nothing more than a clean will be needed)

another question would be to ask if the lines are solid (black line overprinting image) or if they are \'missing\' lines where the image has failed to copy, sometimes it can be hard to work out which side the fault lies,so try shaded greys as a copy original .

if the scan lines are appearing on both Radf and Glassplatten ,mode then the issue may be dirty optics/ccd sensor or it could e an indication of the ccd failing or image control pwb in error while interpreting the image file.

what to do

1) place a grey sheet of paper in the Radf and have the copier photocopy both sides of the original and print to single sided sheets ( so the printer turns the original over to complete the task)

observe the result.

2) have the copier photocopy directly from the platten glass- single sided.

observe the result.

ckeck to see if the error has appeared on both sets of prints ,

if the error has only appeared in the first set of prints then the issue may be a tiny DOT on the slit glass (left of platten) - a dot on this glass will indeed appear as a Line as the original is scanned across the glass.

hhope thhis helps

Black vertical line when copying a book page.no light leaks.

If it is along the edge of the print, it may be the edge of the book page you are seeing. if it is going through the text of the page, your scan carriage is likely skipping. If you don't see this on copies of single sheets of paper laid on the glass, then the weight of the book may be deforming the glass enough to catch the scan carriage as it passes. If you see it on single copied sheets, there is probably something on one of the scan rails under the glass that the carriage is "hopping" over as it passes. You could try watching the scan carriage move while holding the lid open to see if the carriage "hops" once during a scan.

Cannot print, scan or copy. Continue to receive

Hi,
Solution
  1. Remove and then reinsert the cartridge indicated in the error message.
  2. If the error is still displayed, clean the contacts. Click here to see how.
  3. If the error message is Error. Remove and Check Black or Photo Cartridge , the following steps may help:
    1. Remove both cartridges, lower the latches, and close the printer access door.
    2. Turn off the unit by pressing the On button on the front panel. Wait for the printer to completely shut down.
    3. Turn the printer back on by pressing the On button.
    4. When the message display reads Insert Print Cartridges , open the access door and replace the cartridges.
  4. If neither of the steps above fixed the problem, either the cartridge or the printer is faulty.5. Replace Cartridge. Please rate my response!!!Thanks,SF

Very crisp vertical grey line appears (glass clean)

I have the exact same problem. It was there since I first bought the MFC-7840W.
Vertical line appears in scans using the automatic document feeder (ADF).
Vertical line does not appear when scanning single page (placing it directly on the glass -- i.e. not using the ADF).

Cleaning the glass strip for the ADF (or the white pressure bar overhead) does not solve the problem.
The problem does not occur with copies using the ADF (using the COPY button which is basically a scan and print). This would suggest that dust and dirt is not to blame because that would also appear on the copies.
But since I believe a copy is basically a scan plus print, they should be using the same electronics -- a hardware problem on the scan would likely appear on a copy also -- there is some difference between how they accomplish this.
It's definitely not a software issue since it occurs on all versions of Windows and Mac OS X (and multiple computers). It also does not matter whether I "push" the scan to the computer by using the scan button on the MFC... or "pull" the scan from the MFC using the Brother Control Center software.

SCANNER SAYING NO USER ID

This means that you have not set up any users in the address book in the printer.

Copy is simple, it will scan the document and print out a copy of the scanned image.

Scan however, is trying to make and store an image file of the scan, but it needs to know WHERE you want to scan it to. The printer does not know where to send the stored image unless you create a storage location for it. This is done with the address book that is stored on the printer.

The material below is how to set up the scanner settings of the printer.

Printer Settings Utility Using the Printer Settings Utility window, you can set up the fax system data options, and create and edit Phonebook entries from your computer. You can also configure the destination launches when you access Scan and then PC.
When you install the Dell software, the Printer Settings Utility is automatically installed.
For information about installing the software, see "Installing Software in Windows".
To open the Printer Settings Utility:
  1. Click Start software25.jpg Programs software25.jpg DELL software25.jpg DELL Printers software25.jpg DELL Laser MFP 1815 software25.jpg Printer Settings Utility.
The Printer Settings Utility window opens.

psu_113.jpg

  1. The Printer Settings Utility window provides several features; Directory (Phone Book, Address Book), Fax Setting (Fax Cover Sheet), and Scan (Destination, Resolution, Scan Color, Show Preview).
The Scan Section The Destination Section To configure the operator panel display scan destination list that appears when you access Scan and then PC, click Destination and the Setting button. Using the destination list, you can select a software program that an image can be scanned to.

Photocopying a book

yes, there is a button for book form.

it will either be in additional functions or duplex mode.

when copying leave book open on glass it will scan the first page then scan the other page. you can have it on two different sheets or one double sided sheet.

Good luck.

p.s.: it should be in the user manual also if you have it.

I replaced the color cartridge with a HP95 replacement and when I put the lid back down I got the error message "Remove and check color cartridge." I did but nothing seemed wrong. I put the original back in and got the same message. A third cartridge did the same thing. I wiped the contacts with a Q-tip and got the same message. Anybody have this problem before?
