Breville BKE820XL Electric Kettle Logo
Posted on Feb 14, 2011

I have a Breville BKE820 Electric kettle which has started to leak at the bottom of the transparent water level window in the side of the kettle. After about 10 minutes, the base power unit is saturated and presents a short circuit risk. Is there any way of re-sealing the joint between the plastic "window" and the metal body of the kettle that is safe for high temperature surfaces?

You might look into purchasing a silicon sealant. Get the food grade kind. This should do it. http://www.etundra.com/White_Food_Grade_Silicone_Sealant-P19204.html?utm_source=google%2Bproduct&utm_medium=organic
There's also a high temp version thats rated up to 500 deg F if you need to fix something with a higher heat rating.

Clear glass kettle are attractive, easy to pour from, and refill because of its large top opening. You will find many good functions on the advanced clear glass kettles like Breville and Cusinart. Cleaning the scale deposits from the inside is easy and much more.

Oster water kettle leaking from bottom of unit when pouring?

If you're not just simply missing the opening a little as you're pouring then I'd assume it's cheaper to replace than to repair, sorry.

If it's leaking from the side-glass you might get by with filling your kettle just under the lower end of the side-glass.

How do I clean

Fill kettle until 3/4 full with 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Boil and allow to stand overnight.

Empty solution from kettle. Fill the kettle with clean water, bring to boil and discard water. Repeat and the kettle will be ready for use.

Or you can use a proprietary kettle descaler, which is available at most hardware stores.

Problems with Breville SK500XL Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle

There's a thermal cutout that trips if the regular safety switch isn't enough. According to the manual, if the thermal cutout trips you have to send it back to Breville for servicing.

That may be what happened, if just letting it cool down and trying again didn't work.
