To clean the glass on the inside you must disassemble the unit so that you have access to the underside of the glass. If you save all your screws and are careful to lay things out in the order you remove them it is easy to put it back together and you do not have to worry about breaking anything.
Once you have access to the underside of the glass I use real windex and newspaper. With the newspaper you get a streak free shine with no lint particles. If there is dust inside the glass there is most likely dust on the scanners optics. Gently clean them the same way. Be gentle when cleaning the scan bar optics. They are not extremely delicate but it will break if you apply too much pressure as it is a long thin piece of glass.
When you put your scanner all back together it will scan as good as new and all the little black specs and streaks will be gone in your scans. I've done this 100+ times and it works every time. If you need help feel free to contact me an I will walk you through it for free.
I hope you found this info detailed enough to fix your scanner yourself, But If you need some help or moral support feel free to E-mail me and I will even call you for free. Make sure to say what you need in your E-mail as I fix a lot of things for people.

Use of Scanner

On this model there is a SCAN in black and white or color buttons but you need to have something on the glass to scan. Once it scans it prints!!!

Now lexmark software if installed comes with a program to scan with. you need to check under your prgrams folder under lexmark for the scanning software that was installed with the print driver.

If you open the lid and you do not see the white light chances are your scanner has and needs a bulb inside and at the point to install one of these you might want to concider a new printer.

Please be considerate and leave your feedback and comments and ratings before you leave, Thanks

Getting a black strip in copy mode on X6575 lexmark printer. No line in print or test mode

Most likely a page was scanned with 'white out' (Liquid Paper), still wet on the page. As the page feeds over the scanner, (a narrow strip of glass that runs across the width of the page along the feed path) the wet liquid paper comes off on the glass as a thin line and dries. Thereafter, when copying, the scanner light does not go through the liquid paper streak and the result when printed is a thin vertical line that runs the full length of the page.

If this is your problem: follow the path that the paper travels when sending a fax or making a copy, until you find the scanner (narrow glass strip). Take a clean, soft cloth and a small amount of methylated spirit (or white spirit) and remove the now dried Liquid Paper from the glass. Clean the whole strip ensuring that the glass is left clean and dry.

Have Lexmark 5150 all in one, I load the paper and the paper pulls to one side and will not feed. I can't see any other paper stuck inside. ???

Following instruction from Lexmark tech support, I turned the printer upside down and shook it for 5 to 50 seconds. The debris inside fell out. Then using a damp lint free cloth I cleaned the rollers.
