Question about Gateway MX6025 Notebook

1 Answer

RELOAD PROBLEMS I bought a new hdd for my laptop, a 120gig drive and used the restore dvd and it loaded window but didnt load any drivers, I went to gateway site and downloaded the drivers but couldnt get the sound driver to load and work or the modem driver. Why didnt this restore dvd just restore everything, I used to be a phone tech at gateway and I have never seen anything like this! I still have the old drive in a external case, I can put it back in but its a slow 4200 rpm drive with a slow seek time was hoping to speed it up with this new drive. I was thinking about just ghosting the old drive to the new drive but I shouldnt have to do it that way. Any Ideas??

I'm not sure why they do the things they do, but they don't seem to put all the drivers on their restore disc. Here's what you should do. Since your old hard drive is still good, purchase a usb to ide/sata cable, ide or sata depending on which your hard drive is. This will allow you to hook up your old hard drive to your computer as a slave drive. This is going to help you in two ways 1- the drivers for your machine are still on that drive and you can have the hardware wizard find them there, and 2- you can use the old drive for storage, backup, or whatever.

My 13 year old son laptop need be reset like new

There are a couple possible solutions to your problem. If the computer will still turn on and load windows, and I assume you are using Windows XP, you can try doing a system restore. To do this, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and select System Restore. If system restore is enabled, you should be able to choose a date in the past when the laptop was working properly and restore the computer to that date. If you want to completely reload windows, you will need a Windows XP installation disc. Load the disc in the CD or DVD player and reboot the computer. You should see a screen asking you to press any key to boot from CD, go ahead and press Enter. You will now enter setup where you can reformat the hard drive and reload windows XP. Follow the on-screen instructions to delete any old partitions, and then create a new partition and format it using NTFS. The windows XP installation will continue after the hard drive is formatted. If, when you reboot the computer with the installation disc in the drive, you are not prompted to boot from CD, you may need to reboot and press F2 or F12 to change the boot selection to the CD or DVD drive so it will load the CD first before it tries to load your original Windows installation.

I have a Lenovo Y430 Windows Vista laptop. I bought and it was a display, so it didnt come with any disk. I want to restore it to factory settings I tried the F11 button when starting it up, and it didnt...

With this, there is a hidden partition on your hdd to restore the default setting... Turn off your computer. Once it is off. Beside the power button, there is a small button. It has a headset logo or inverted U logo. Press and hold that until you can see windows loading files. then you just need to select one key recovery. select restore to initial back up or default settings. then wait.

HDD error no hard drive found, a new hard drive was installed but the result was the same

If system has a SATA HDD and you are using WIndows XP, you may need to load a SATA controller driver before the HDD controller will be recognized by the Winodws setup. Windows XP will require the driver from a floppy diskette, Vista will load from USB or any other type of drive

I m not able to install my vista

Hey,
I had a similar problem w/my HP Pavillion.
Did you format the CDR/W's before you're burned you're restore disks?
XP will not work w/many of the newer laptops, it won't load many of the drivers.
So, you'll have to go to the Compaq support website-enter make/model/serial # etc. Then order a Vista restore CD-That's model # specific, for your particular model and it will load MotherBoard, Video and all other drivers.
Compaq shouldn't charge you except for shipping the CD's.
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html
You'll have to use you're XP CD first and make sure you do a complete fdisk, delete all partitions & then do a full and complete format of you're HD until the bios auto detects all the space on the drive-ie: if you have a 120gig HD make sure it reads 120gig then run Vista OS restore CD's and you shouldn't have any probs after that.
Good luck!

can you see your dvd drive in bios ?
if yes, can you see your dvd drive in windows explorer ?
if you can't see it in windows explorer, it's windows issue,
either you can reload the operating system or you can edit windows registry.
if you want to edit, follow this step from microsoft (link below):
