Question about GE Microwave Ovens

We, Ronald and Carolyn Thomann purchased a GE Microwave Model JES738 at a Walmart store on Rt. 23 Lewis Center, OH which is suburban Columbus. We purchased this for an Easter Gift (2008) for a 94 yr. old friend . We sent the registration card in for her under her name, Luella Huffman, 1105 Colony Park Dr. Apt 611, Westerville, OH 43081. Mrs Huffman used this for less than two months, and it got extremely hot, and then just quit and will not heat or cook anything now. The light goes on, the turntable works, but just will not cook or heat anything. Unfortunately, my wife has misplaced the original sales receipt . She has hunted high and low for the receipt but to no avail. Is there a way that we can get this machine serviced under the warranty without the sales receipt. ? If the machine was registered, you should have a record of same. Your advice please. You may call us at 614 895 2319 or Mz. Huffaman at 614 899-6042. Microwave GE JES738 doesn't heat

Almost certainly the magnetron tube in your oven shorted and caused the light show and sound effects. This is the microwave source, and without the waves there's no heat. The tube is replaceable, but it's a costly parts. Add in repair labor, and you'd be better off replacing the oven. New ones are often cheaper than the parts alone today.

JES738 purchased 4/25/08 , no microwave power, light and fan running continuously (door open or closed) and not responding to keyed input.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Otherwise, since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

Mounting microwave

As long as you have a adequate ventilation space (usually 1-2") all around it.

I'd advise you to consult the manual for that detail and about the availability of a kit for it.

GE microwave caugnt on fire while being used. The microwave was purchased in the Walmart Super Center in Newton, MS on 12/20/07.

GE microwaves are not very good, they always have problems, I would call up GE and see what they will do for you or call Walmart. Serious wiring issue or an issue with the magnetron caused this.

good luck on getting it replaced and hopefully you will get some money off of this as it may still be under warranty from GE, so give them a call.

I bought a ge microwave ( model JES738WJ02)SERIAL FR909449U)from walmart store in greenville north carolina little less than 3 weeks ago. this oven is getting VERY VERY HOT WHEN I HEAT SOMETHING IN IT OVER...

Go to and click on the "Service and Support" link on the left-hand side of the screen. On the next page, click on the "Contact Us" link. You have the option of using their knowledge base to see if any of the posted questions will help you. Or, you can send an email to them to address the issue and you can call them directly. If you decide to call, I would recommend the "GE Answer Center", or the "GE Warranty Management" links. Since you just purchased the item recently, they still may honor a replacement or free repair if there's something wrong with the appliance. Since you can't find your receipt, your serial number may come in handy to prove this point. The first two letters "FR" indicate that this applaince was manufactured in February of 2008 which makes it about 3 months old. Most manufacture warranties are for one year. With this information and a store number of the Wal-Mart where you purchased the item from, you shouldn't have any problems resolving this issue. I hope this information is helpful to you.
