Sears Garage Door Opener automatically opens

I just purchased and installed a new Sears Craftsman 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener with rolling code tranmsmitters less than a week ago. Since it has been installed, we have found the door open on several occassions. No one in the household pushed any buttons to open the door. Since we have been finding it open we have been double checking that it is for sure closed when we close, but still have found it open later on.

Any ideas on why it is opening automatically? If it has a rolling code transmitter I thought this prevents neighbors from having the same code, but could this still be happening?

Sears doesn't seem to have a phone number to call for troubleshooting questions and I don't think I need an installer to come out, since I know it is installed correctly.

No, don't live close to a military base. Would a passing police car use the same frequencies?

Problem solved. Neighbor has a Chamberlain Liftmaster opener and his transmitter was opening our opener. I erased all the codes from our receiver and reprogrammed all our remotes. Tried his transmitter and it no longer opens our door.

I am very surprised someone living right next door to us had a transmitter that our receiver recognized. The manual leads you to believe the codes are very unique. I'd recommend anyone installing a new opener (Sears or Chamberlain especially) erase all the factory default codes and start over.

Help!! Our garage door is on someone else's frequency, even tho it is a rolling code (this problem just started when we bought a new car last week and programed the homelink system in the car to our opener). We erased the codes , and now our neighbor's truck across the street opens our door. We erased and reprogrammed the codes again, but his truck still can open our door. We are at our wit's end.

Shocked. i do not recode new units. rolling codes have 100 billion comos and change each use. go buy a lottery ticket cause you got the ` in 100 million.

I moved my wall-mounted controller and (unfortunately) the new location had a bump out (drywall seam). There must have been a twist in the unit when I tightened the screws. The same symptoms as you describe, occurred. Loosening the screws to reduce the tork or moving it solved my problem.

Do you live anywhere near a military base? This may sound like a strange question, but the military began using frequencies that are the same as garage door openers, and a lot of people near bases are having trouble with their door openers. These frequencies were reserved some time ago for the military, but weren't used until maybe a year or so ago. Countrycurt0

Police activity should not be a problem. I checked on the internet and there were many problems w/ military radio frequencies starting around 2005 when the military began using them, they were causing doors to freeze, open randomly, etc. Sorry I can't be of more help! Countrycurt0

aklausing good detective work! I am also surprised that the codes weren't totally different. I kinda liked the military radio frequency angle-glad its fixed- Countrycurt0

The only models I can find that are close to yours are 53920D and 53920DM which are fairly new. They both call for keypad model 53754.

You may have a bad wall control. Try disconnecting it from the opener and try. Otherwise it is time for a new model.

Programming kepad for Sears Craftsman Garagedoor opener 1/2 hp

The only procedure I have ever followed is to press the learn button and then enter the code, and not do anything else. I think your last step of holding the button until the light goes out is clearing codes as fast as you enter them. Just stop after you enter your code and let the learn mode time out on its own. That should do it.

And don't put your head through the wall. It just causes more headaches.
