The PlayStation 2, like the original PlayStation, incorporates circuitry to prevent the playing of copied or out-of-region discs and programs produced by people who are not paying percentage to the Sony Corporation (unlicensed games etc.). User response to this - grey market for modchips. PS2 Mod-Chips when installed, bypass the checks and allow the copied CD-R and DVD-R backup discs to run. Obviously the installation of mod-chips in PlayStation 2 consoles is widely discouraged by Sony -- the reason is piracy. You must know that Sony has overlaid a seal onto each of their PS2 consoles. If this seal is broken (thus providing evidence that the console has been opened and "modded"), Sony will refuse to repair the system. On the other hand if your console is more than one yer old and no longer covered by the manufacturer warranty you should not worry about fraking the seal -- it will not change anything.
It can be done spending around few $15 to $20 i guess.
I own a PS2 which is modded before a year and still it works with out any trouble. You can ask if u have any questions about PS2. Thank you, Thyagu.A
You can "chip" the ps2 to play pirated games.
Try a local area internet search for people offering the "chipping" service.
It is usually pretty cheap ( i found 4 people within 30kms of me offering to do it for under $50 )
There are multiple "Mods" which can be performed on a PSP (as well as on newer consoles as well).
Some are hardware mods (the addition of chips which expand or bypass (depending on a particular mod) to allow the recognition and playback of various formats, such as 3rd party software. The problem with modding is that if someone isn't careful, the mod can also brick the system (keep it from recognizing the original, retail PS2 games, movies, etc....
Besides that, I can't tell you much more about pirating software, since it's illegal and I'm no advocate of that. You should ask your friend what specific "Mod" was performed, if that's even the case.
PS.. My advice - Don't let anyone modify the hardware on any of your devices, unless you don't care if they ever work again. Also, you can't play online games/content with modded systems...since they are automatically detected and banned from the servers.
The chip is nt pirated. The thing is it is a small chip that has to be installed with the main chip on motherboard where code has been installed. After installing chip, main chip can't recognize original code, thus copied PS2 media works on MOD Chip. The chip comes with many little wires. You can't install that. Go to a expert. It will take an hour to install. Feel free to ask any problem related PS2.
one thing you should do is try to put either alcohol or perfume on tisse paper and wipe the dvd. it should work. another thing it might be the laser that is damaged. but try the perfume or alcohol it works.
pirating is illeagal and i cannot condone it but if you want to bother with it get a mod chip to play back ups checkout easybuy2000.com they sell mod chips for various consoles, or at least they did when the original xbox was still new, anyway if you want to play movies early generation ps2 may be able to play dvd backups, must be the entire disk with the protection copied (an exact imageg of the original dvd) also some usb addons for this are now available, if you have a psx(pre psone playstations with the expansion slot on the rear preferably) can very easily be done, all you need is one real psx game and either a non cdx (mem card and cd style) games shark or pro action replay (i prefer the par) using a lego peice or an m3 screw(standard pc case screw) and a cd case prop the lid open and use the case to hold it half closed, the disk will spin as if it where closed and can be swaped with the backup disk once the system is booted to the gs or par screen, at this point the disk will stop spinning after verifing the disk is legit, then you swap with the back up and start the game with or without cheats, some versions of the psx will double check if it does its not an early enough version., sorry about the length if you need more details email me, firstname.lastname@example.org
