Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have purchased 2 flash drives, one 32G and one 16G the only problem is that neither appears to be able to hold the amount of data that it says. The 32G holds about 10G and the 16G holds about 6G. I am loading movies onto the drives. Can they both be faulty or is this normal??? The data seems to be on the drives until I take them out of the computer and replace them again then some of the folders read as empty. Any suggestions. Thanks, Noel

Says 16g (but only 11.5g available

Hi Steve,

Here are the specs for this machine:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03789872

You should be able to install & use 16GB (max) in that machine provided you have the memory type required and you have a 64 bit OS installed on it. HP also notes that the OS may further reduce the amount of memory on the machine. I would start by disabling the quick boot feature in most BIOS screens so that the memory can be checked and :"counted". If it goes up to 16GB, the memory is good and the OS is limiting to ~12GB. If not - there a bad chip / stick somewhere.

You should begin swapping memory sticks one at a time to determine which stick is problematic and return it for replacement.

Drive is a 500g and now reads as 32g

Try format the drive. If this doesn't work there is a fault with the drive and it will need to be taken back to the place of purchase or sent to Toshiba directly.

It will not boot up stops when it say detecting storage device

Remove the hard drive and put it into an enclosure. Plug it into another computer as a slave. Then you can copy your files on it.
If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it, you can recover data from hard drive with data recovery program. Asoftech data recovery is a professional data recovery program that can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus attack etc.

How resstore my acer aspire to factory settings?

There should have been a recovery disk created or included when you bought a laptop. Insert disk if you have it and restart your computer with the recovery disk in the CD drive. Make sure all your documents and personal data are backed up. When the computer restarts it should start restoring your computer to the factory default. There will be a wizard to guide you through the process. If there is not a disk, then follow this steps:
1.Save any files or folders on your Acer Aspire One with flash drives. Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
2.Go to "Start" > "Restart" to reboot your netbook.
3.Hold down "Alt" and "F10" when you see the Acer logo on the screen. The recovery menu will load.
4.Hit "Enter" and then "Next" to see your recovery options. Choose "Factory Restore" to set your netbook back to factory settings. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5.Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears. Reboot the netbook when you are prompted.
6.Restore your saved files from the flash drive.

hope this helps,Goodluck..

I need to do a complete reinstallation of the XP operating system on my Dell e310 , where can I purchase a cd to do this ?? I did not get a recovery disk when I purchased this unit .This means reformatting...

Hi there,

if you check in your start menu you may have a recovery option to create the discs, this is what newer computer do this days, or even better you may have a partitioned hard drive with the recovery unit ready to go, if so start the computer holding F12 and it will run you through this.

If not you can purchase them from Dell itself, and this will come with all the drivers ready to install and you will be ready to go with no messing about.

if you purchase a XP disc from a computer store it will cost you a bomb then you will have to download the drivers from the dell website.

hope this helps

Windows asking me to format my flash drive

Just format your flash drive! Before you start formatting your flash drive, transfer all data from your flash drive 'cause when you format your flash drive, it will erase all the data. After you have formatted the flash drive, then you can transfer back the data to your flash drive.

Klash drive will not fill

What is a klash drive? Are you thinking of, as Smithbrother asks, a flash drive or thumb drive?

If you are, most don't hold exactly the amount they say are. For example, a 1 gigabyte flash drive will hold somewhere around 950 or 965 megabytes, a little less than the drive is listed as. That's common. If you're using a small flash drive (and that's what you're referring to), a 1 or 2 gigabyte flash drive costs as little as $12 to $16 dollars, sometimes half that price. If you're using a small size drive, consider getting a larger one.

Let me know if this answers your question.
