Question about Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 Camcorder

1 Answer

Rolling Display When I power up the Camcorder, the flip out LCD display rolls slowly in a vertical movement. I have turned it on and off, sometimes it works, but I haven't found in the handbook or documentation this problem. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for you response - I did the Sony Tech "Chat" and they said I needed to send it in to their service department. The problem I face now is that I live in Europe (Bulgaria) but bought the unit in the U.S. They say that it cannot be serviced in Europe and has to be sent to the US service centers. Do you know why this is the case? There is a Sony center here that sure would be more convenient. Thanks for you help.

I have the same rolling display problem when I power up the camera. I have not tried to have it repaired yet. I really hate to have to ship it to Sony for repair since their flat rate is about $200. Not sure what to do.

Replace all the electrolytic capacitors [ 5 0r 6 of it] at its vertical scan output section circuit. Check the supply filter capacitor connected to the main supply voltage to vertical output IC; and replace it too. There are two possibility for this fault. The first one is, with its CRT base connector sockets. If this socket is bad, an out of focus picture will be displayed at first switch ON, which will gradually gain focus after some time, say, 15 to 30 minutes. If the humidity of atmosphere is high, it might take more than this specified time above, and might take up to an hour or so. Replace the CRT base sockets, and check first. The vertical rolling might be due to insufficient supply voltage from the power regulator board, and should be checked after you have rectified this out of focus problem.
