Question about Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 Camcorder

1 Answer

Rolling Display When I power up the Camcorder, the flip out LCD display rolls slowly in a vertical movement. I have turned it on and off, sometimes it works, but I haven't found in the handbook or documentation this problem. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for you response - I did the Sony Tech "Chat" and they said I needed to send it in to their service department. The problem I face now is that I live in Europe (Bulgaria) but bought the unit in the U.S. They say that it cannot be serviced in Europe and has to be sent to the US service centers. Do you know why this is the case? There is a Sony center here that sure would be more convenient. Thanks for you help.

I have the same rolling display problem when I power up the camera. I have not tried to have it repaired yet. I really hate to have to ship it to Sony for repair since their flat rate is about $200. Not sure what to do.

It's rolling how, exactly? Could you try and offer more information for us to work with? Also, try and refer to the user manual to see if your issue is addressed:

Picture rolls when view finder is fully open. When partially closed it stops rolling. Sometime it stops rolling when view finder is slowly opened to full position.

Most likely a ribbon cable with a bad connection on one or more of it's conductors. It requires dismantling the camera to expose both ends of the cable to check the plastic clamp connectors to this cable on both ends. Another possibility is a partially damaged ribbon cable making intermittent contact. If it's the cable, it requires a replacement. Do you feel you are capable of this level of service? If unsure, then best to leave to those who are comfortable with this type of work. Nimsgame

LCD screen continues rolling

There is connecting ribbon wire between LCD board and main camera board, this ribbon wire is cracked and needs to be replaced.

SONY camcorder DCR-HC42 color stripes

Try with the side display closed. Does the viewfinder show the pix OK? If so, then the problem is isolated to the LCD display. There is a small ribbon cable between the camera body and the LCD that sometimes gets a small crack in it. Replacing the cable usually fixes the problem.

No Display is coming on the Flip out LCD

CCD sensor seems faulty . Sony should repair free of charge but otherwise it is not an expensive repair to perform : requires 1 hour labout at most. ( the componenet itself is not expensive ).
