Tip

Setting up (HP Jetdirect print server) Printers on a network

To install the HP printers with a built-in Jetdirect print server as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Configure the HP's IP address using the printer's Menu options.
Enable the Network and configure the Network settings so it matches the IP range of your network. eg if your IP's are 192.168.0.xxx then set the HP to a high number say 100, set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer to the network hub/router with a LAN cable and power up the printer.
4. Click on Printers an Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bidirectional support and then OK

You need to install the printer driver and configure the TCP/IP port for HP printer the same way on every computer on your network.
Now any computer on your network can print to this printer.

For detailed instructions on configuring the Jetdirect card, go to this WEB site.

Networking with hp 2355

This model printer has only an USB connection and needs to be connected to a computer.
To use this printer on your network, the printer needs to be connected to your computer and must be configured as a shared printer.
Your computer and printer must be switched on at all times for the other computers to print on this printer.

What wires go into the back of the Dynex 5 Port 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch?

A switch is a device for networking computers printers or other devices with an ethernet port. Most common scenario would be to hook a cat5 cable from your broadband router's lan port to Port 1 and then connect your other ethernet devices to the remaining ports. In order for the devices to cmmunicate you'll want to make sure that they are on the same ip subnet. Usually, 192.168.1.x.
Your router may be 192.168.1.1, your PC 192.168.1.100 Printer 192.168.1.101. Each device needs a unique IP address.
Hope that helps.

How to network two computers and one printer trough a netgear FS105 switch?

Connect your two computers to netgear swtich with Ethenret lan cable into LAN port.
Then set ip address in both computer in network adapter property same subnet mask and gateway ip is different .
Means if you give ip 192.168.1.10 to 1 computer you can give ip 192.168.1.11 to another computer.
Then both computer are in network.
Then if your printer is network printer then you can connect your printer with lan cable to switch then set ip ion printer same way.
But if you haven;t network printer then you can connect printer into 1 computer then share your printer in contol panel->printer and faxes if you use windows then right click on printer icn then click on share so you can use it in network.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

hi there,

Because printers and networks vary, the best instructions for setting up and networking your printer should be in its users manual. Also, your network-ready printer may have come with installation software that can help you share the printer over the network.

There are three main steps you need to take when networking a printer, including the following: Enable the File And Printer Sharing setting, Make the printer available to all users, and Direct PCs to the printer.
