I have a 1996 audi a6 with a v6 engine. One morning i went to start my car an it would not move only in reverse every sense its been sittin for like two weeks than i tried it today randomlyy an it still works in reverse an now 1st gear as well but i obviously cant drive no more than 20 25 miles per. hour bcuz of my RPS's. The tranny fluid is is full an the floor borad where the TCU is located was damp but i dried it an un plugged battery an still only reverse an 1st? what to i do?

Doubt it as the fault suggests you need to look into the range sensor. If similar to Renault there is a switch on the gearbox that senses where the select lever is (at the gearbox end). If the display is wrong then the sensor needs looking at and either it will need to be adjusted into a set position by moving it, or perhaps the connector to it or wiring to/from it have a fault.

I had the same thing with my 96 Audi A6 - what fixed it for me was placing a new ground strap between the engine block and the body. It appears the ends of the old cable were corroded.

Had the same problem with 1997 audi and had the neutral safty switch/multi-funtion switch replaced and has been working great sence. prices vary for switch 250. to 450. so shope around for the part.
