TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

The screen may be too dim to read. Try pressing 2ND->Up arrow key repeatedly while the calculator is turned on and it may darken the screen enough so you can read it.

Open the battery compartment. Above the four AAA batteries you should see a small screw. Unscrew that to uncover the backup battery.

How can i fix the message om the TI-83 RAM Cleared?

It is possible that the backup battery is depleted and cannot keep the RAM refreshed when the calculator is turned off. I suggest you change the backup battery immediately.

If I have to replace the batteries in my TI-83 Plus calculator, will the programs that I already have in place be lost?

That's what the backup battery is for. It will keep the memory long enough for you to change the AAA batteries. Just don't remove the main and backup batteries at the same time.

TI-83 Plus ram cleared message when turned on

It calculator tells you Ram Cleared each time you turn it on, the most likely reason is that the backup battery is depleted. Its role is to keep the memory modules electrically refreshed when calculator is turned off. If the backup battery is dead, the memory is erased when you turn calculator OFF. Main batteries no longer supply power and the contents of the memory are cleared.
  1. Check that main batteries are good and inserted in calculator.
  2. Turn calculator OFF.
  3. Replace the backup battery.
  4. Turn calculator ON.
  5. Press the [CLEAR] key to erase the "Ram Cleared" message.

My scientific calculator TI-83 plus is not working i replace the batteries then the calculator cuts on and off and show random things on the screen

You may need to replace the backup battery located behind a little door with a screw right above the AAA batteries. If that doesn't work you might want to try a full reset. Take all batteries out including the backup battery and leave them out for a few hours before reassembling. Hope this helps.

My TI-83 Plus Calculator will not turn on

This is from TI FAQS:

Solution 11900: Troubleshooting a TI Graphing Calculator That Will Not Turn On.

For the TI-83 Plus Family, TI-84 Plus Family:
Caution: The resets described in these troubleshooting steps will cause a loss of applications, programs and data. If at all possible please create a backup using TI Connect™ first.
  1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.
  2. Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow.
  3. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.
  4. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system.
  5. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

RAM Cleared

This is kinda a weird situation. Because it's usually the other way around. Your ram will clear if your calculator is frozen. So take out all 5 batteries from the back. Even the back up battery. Then reset it again. 2nd then + then 7 then 1 Then 2. Good luck.

the screen may be at the lowest dim setting, try turning it on, then pressing the 2nd key and then hold the up key and see if anything appears, if not let me know and I will try to figure out something else, I own a 83, 84, and 89 so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out
