Question about Printers & Copiers

4 Answers

Just got a Canon PIXMA MP520 all-in-one and tried to print envelopes. Followed online instructions: Media Type: Envelope. Paper Size: DL Env. Set to Landscape. Loaded envelope in rear feeder, rh side, flap facing left. Envelope is standard 6 x 4 with lick and seal flap (no self seal or double flap). Every time the address is printed out sideways. Hope you can help as I'm tearing out my hair here! I've got Windows XP - somewhere in the instructions it says they are for Vista. Could I be following th wrong instructions? I have followed the online instructions exactly and the recent answer added nothing further. Instructions say 'Be sure to set the printer driver setting correctly or address may be printed in wrong direction'. Could someone specify the correct settings so that I can identify the error I am making?

  • sallie3737 Aug 05, 2008

Problem solved. From the Microsoft Word application go to Tools > Letters and mailings > Envelopes and Labels. Copy the address into the panel and print. Works every time. I'm rather surprised that two of your experts didn't tell me this method which I found just by browsing in Tools.

If you have some software (like a CD of some sort, that you get when you buy the printer), like a program, or something, you can try, and set the stuff straight over there, but you need to see the help function of that program (if there is one) or try to send an r-mail or something, like contacting the manufacturer, somehow...

Or what if you try to contact them to a phone number...probably you'll talk to one of their experts, and they should know what they're doing, so then everything would be simpler...I guess...

If print from file menu on top bar ( don't click small printer icon that starts printing straight away), you should get a print windows with option on number of pages to be printed, there you will also find a button called Properties.
Click properties button there you will find a setting called Orientation, change Orientation from Portrait toLandscape for envelopes.

"Be sure to set the printer driver setting correctly or address may be printed in wrong direction" does not make any sense, probably the expert posted this comment in the wrong place. Driver do not affect paper orientation.
Just check portrait/landscape settings in print options , that is all.

Once you change orientation from portrait to landscapein print properties, it should print in the right way.

"Be sure to set the printer driver setting correctly or address may be printed in wrong direction" means you have to change orientation, just follow my instructions.

How do I print an envelope on my Canon MP510?

Envelopes must be fed from the Auto Sheet Feeder. Use either European DL or US Comm. Env. #10-sized envelope.
Important :
  • You need to print from the computer to print on envelopes.
  • Do not use envelopes with embossed or treated surfaces, a double flap, pressure seals, or sticker flaps.
  • Select either DL Env. or Comm. Env. #10 in the printer driver according to the envelope size you are using. If you do not, the address will be printed in the wrong direction.

loadingenvsdiag.gif
1 : Retract the Paper Support.

2 : Load the envelope against the Cover Guide (the right side of the Paper Support).
Load with the front face UP and the rear flaps DOWN on the left.
A maximum of 10 envelopes can be loaded at once.
*1 Printing orientation
*2 Make sure the flaps are folded.
Important : Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright.

3 : Pinch the Paper Guide and slide it against the left side of the envelope.

4 : Press the Paper Feed Switch so that the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp lights up.

5 : Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right.

In the printer driver, select 'Envelope' in Media Type, and then select 'DL Env'. or 'Comm. Env. #10' in Page Size.

I have a Pixma MX870 and I can't find out from the manual or anywhere online how to print envelopes. Please help! Is it anywhere in the manual? Pat Heer

You have to use the top rear tray to load envelopes for printing.
Open the Paper Support, raise and tip it back.
Slide the paper guides to open and load the envelopes in the middle.
The envelopes are place with the address side facing up
and the flap facing down on the left side.
Slide the paper guides until they just touch the envelopes.
You have to set the printer driver.
Select Envelope in Commonly Used Setting or Media Type.
Select DL Env. or #10 in the Envelope Size Setting
Select Landscape in Orientation.
You can load up to 10 envelopes.

I have a Canon MP460 & cannot print DL envelopes from a .pdf as there is a grey band showing in preview:composite. Nothing prints in this band. How do I remove it?

This appears to be a bug with the Canon software. It is not using the correct dimensions for a DL envelope.

The solution is to use a Custom Paper Size. Make it 110mm wide and 220mm high (which are the correct dimensions for a DL envelope).

To make it easy to select this size in the future, set the Custom Paper Size (plus any other options you want) and then click on the Save button. When the save dialog appears, click on Options and make sure that "Save the paper size setting" is checked. Then enter a suitable name (e.g., "Envelope DL Custom") and click OK.

Can't print DL envelopes on a Pixma iP4600

Hi ...

If you like to print DL envolopes, check the below 3 points and I am sure you will be able to print from your printer.

Prepare the printer:
  1. Open the Rear Tray and pull out the Paper Support. Put your finger in the rounded indent of the Paper Support and pull it out until it stops. (See <1> in Figure 1 below.)

  2. Open the Paper Output Tray. Put your finger in the rounded indent beside the Paper Output Tray and open it gently. (See <2> in Figure 1 below.)

  3. Open the Output Tray Extension. Open up and set the Output Tray Extension completely by pressing down the hollow on its front side. (See <3> in Figure 1 below.)

  4. Adjust the position of the Paper Thickness Lever. Set it to the right when printing on envelopes or T-shirt transfers, and left when printing on any other type of paper. (See <4> in Figure 1 below.)

Note: Reset the Paper Thickness Lever to the left when you finish printing. (See <3> in Figure 3 below.)

Preparing Envelopes to Load:
  1. Press down firmly on the edges of the envelopes to make the folds crisp. Also, press firmly on the area that corresponds to the edges of the back flap.

  2. Remove any curling by holding the edges diagonally and bending them gently.

  3. If the edges of the envelope are inflated or are curling, place the envelope on a flat surface. With a pen, press down while moving it from the center toward the edges of the envelope.

  4. Ensure that no curl or puff exceeds 1/8 in. (3 mm).

Pixma MP 970, how can I get manual

Here is the downlink for the Installable Manual. Download this where ever you chose so you can find it later if needed. Once it is downloaded, double click the file to unpack the data. Once that is unpacked click on Start and it will install to your Desktop. I found the below data from the manual. The manual looks very complete.

These instructions are directly from the Manual:
Printing an Envelope Printing an Envelope For details about how to load an envelope into the printer, see the user's manual.
The procedure for performing envelope printing is as follows:
1. Fold down the envelope flap.
2. Load the envelope in the printer.
When loading the envelope in the rear tray, orient the envelope so that the flap is on the left and the folded surface is facing down.

When loading the envelope in the cassette, orient the envelope so that the flap is on the left and folded surface is facing up.

3. Open the printer driver setup window, and select Envelope from the Media Type list on the Main tab.

4. Click the Page Setup tab, and select Youkei 4, Youkei 6, Comm. Env. #10, or DL Env. for Page Size.
5. Select Landscape for Orientation.
6. Click OK.
When you execute print, the information is printed on the envelope.

I hope this fixes you up and you get the manual downloaded. You many need to start here just in case and select the entry for the Manual in English.
