Question about Canon PIXMA iP8500 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

Uneven borders I am currently trying to set up an IP8500 to print with an even border around the image. I?ve checked the Photoshop printer dialogue box for ?centre image? yet there is a significantly bigger border at the bottom and to the left. The ?Specify Margins? in Page Setup of the printer?s dialogue box are all set to 0. Any help greatly appreciated.

Printing 11x14 photos

First use a photo processing programme (like say Photoshop or PS Elements - or if you have not got that (can be expensive) get the free Faststone Image Viewer and size the image to twice the paper size you want, then use the crop tool to select half the image and save that as a file with a name where you can find it again. Do the same with the other half. You will now have two files, each half of the paper size. As they will have small borders, print and trim the borders, so you can then mount side by side to achieve what you want. I would advise to NOT try and print without borders - that can introduce other problems - just accept having to trim the small borders from normal printing.

Uneven borders how do i fix it

If you are trying to do this by setting borders manually you are probably running into the Canon's minefield of "minimal printed borders" which throw off calculations. The manual setting is primarily for off-setting images rather than for perfectly centered images.
For a centered image, the borders are automatically set by the relationship of image sizing to paper size, with "center image" checked and other sizing options unchecked. This has worked perfectly in the three Canon printers I've owned, whereas trying to set even borders manually was always off a bit and a real pain.
If you want the same border width for all sides, the aspect ratio of the paper and image will have to be different, strangely enough, for all but square images. For 1" borders all around on 10x15 paper, e.g., your 2:3 AR image will have to be cropped and sized to 8X13" dimensions.Hope It's resolve all Your Printer Problem,

How do you do borders in Photoshop please

The easiest method to make borders on your images is by using the ‘stroke' command in Photoshop.
To do this, start by pressing “Ctrl-A” to select the entire image, go to “Edit” on the menu, select “Stroke”. You will then choose how thick you want your borders to be in px (pixels), what color, and where you want your border to be placed in the image (inside, center, or outside).
Hope this helps.

Problem with printing borders, and with cartridge.

Hmm, I got the same problem once in my university LABs.
What i do was the same you have done, but do try again because if "some side" of the border is not been printed, then its the "Border Setting".

Try using Ms Word 2007.(I guess you are already using it)
Goto Page Layout Tab > click Page Borders (Borders and Shading dialogue will appear) > Then insert a border, apply it.

Now again go there, and this time in the bottom right corner of the dialogue box, you will see Options button, click it.

Make the Margins Maximum (31pts) (Measure from : Edge of Page)

if this doen't work, then;

You can also change the margins but now (Measure from : Text)

But the first one works for me perfectly.
before doing this all also re-insert your blx/wht cartirdge.

Canon MP600, Borderless print issues

There is probably a "gutter" setting that is trying to give you a border of sorts. Check the advanced print settings and look for something like gutter and turn it off.

Boarders and titles

A name and date is very simple you can go to the control panel- Tap twice on the top left of the welcome screen and enter your four digit code default is 9999 - Click on the ikon at the top of the screen relervant to text - You can then type a Company name, Date or Tel No: - select font colour size and position - I would suggest white - You then click on
the add text button and it will be on all prints until you change it or switch it off - We put our Name, Tel No and a number to designate which printer it is as we have five of them and if we have a problem I know which one needs fixing. As to adding a company logo and date
in the borders section you would first need to create a border design
in photoshop or other editing program import that into the border creating software that came with the machine then save this to a borders folder on you computer - Then if you have a compact flash card in the expansion slot on the inside of the ribbon carrier door remove it
and add your new border to the borders folder on the card and replace it in the machine. If you havn't then copy the border directory from the CD
supplied with the machine to you hardrive add you new border to this folder then copy it to your new compact flash card - Place this in the expansion slot in the side of the machine as above. When you now
switch the machine on and enter the print mode select the border ikon and you should see all your borders - Select the one you require and print - If you print different sizes you will need to create a border for each size - You can also go to the control panel and set the machine to add a border every time it prints but I have never needed to do that but
it will but in the owners manual and won't be to difficult I assume.

Image is partially cut off when printed

Your expert patiently talked me through several possibilities. Finally, in the print set-up window, I clicked on Properties in the upper right and made all my printing choices there. I still got a border, even though I didn't want one, but it was all the way around the photo...not on two sides, and the photo was not chopped off.

How can I get A4 size borderless prints

From what I can see, this printer can only do borderless prints onto 4x6" paper only. Larger print jobs such as your A4 will have a border.
