Question about Lowrance GPS Devices

1 Answer

I have a 520c gps and fish finder, got it last summer, only been used about 7 times between last year and this year. Now all of a sudden the gps, doesn't show any satilites except one, and it won't lock on to it or time any other, satilites. So in other words, it doesn't work. I called Lorance and got voice mail and not answer back. I tried resetting the machine, disconneting and conneting the antenna, with no change. Is there a real problem or am I not finding the problem.

The problem is most likely in the antenna.

Have you installed a RADAR? The GPS will not acquie a saellite unless it is above or below the bea emitted from the RADAR.

The easiest thing to check is corrosion on the plug where it attaches to GPS.

Look at tour satellite status page. Is WAAS turned on or off? If it is on try turning it off and see if that makes a difference. If the GPS acquires with WAAS turned off, you probably need a software update.

Next follow the antenna wire to the antenna and look for any signs of damage, particularly where any new accessories have been installed. It is also a common point of failure if the cable is stressed near where it enters the antenna.

You may be able to convince your friendly local marine retailer such as West, Cabala, or Boater's World to let you buy an antenna for test purposes and then return it when you are done. You don't have to snake wires all over the boat, simply place the antenna somewhere where it has a clear view of the sky and plug it in.

If the antenna is not the culprit your next step would be to check your software version which appears when you start up the display. If it is not version 2.3.0, get a blank MMC card and download a software update from Lowrance at this link:
SOFTWARE VERSION 2.3.0

It should include intructions on how to install the update.

If that fails, your only option left is to box up the display and antenna and send it out for service.

Problem with navman 4150 fish finder

I installed my Navman 4150 depth finder along with the Navman GPS unit when I purchased my Bayliner Trophy 20Ft. Offshore model. Everything was ok for one year and it has been downhill since then. Losing signal, unbelievable high depth ranges, blank periods, etc.. I now can't even get a reading tieded up at the dock. I am now giving up and shoping for a quality unit.. Cape Disappointment.........

4150sx finder erratic depth

I had the same problem last time I was out in shallow water (in less than 2 metres of water) and I suspect that the problem was weed wrapped around the transducer but won't know for sure until I take it out on the water again. I had another problem re water temp which I'll enter separately.

Navman 4500 fish finder w/transom mount transducer

I finally got an email reply from Navman. If the unit is less than two years old (mine is not) they will repair it. If it is over two years old, or if you can't prove that it is less than two years old, you can ship it to them and they will repair it for the low, low price of 355 US dollars.

Pretty nice of them since it appears these units are highly problematic isn't it? I am wondering if they guarantee their fix, or just have you on the hook for another 355 dollars later.

Good Luck Everyone,

Walt

I Experienced the same problem the last two weeks. I read your suggestion about the right key/power button. The GPS asked me wheter I wanted to clear the memory yes or no. After "yes" i had to reenter my country and date/time. After doing this it took gps310 more than an hour to get its first fix. But it works again.

Installing an old used lowrance fish finder

I don't think your old fish finder is the LMS-332C GPS Receiver listed above in the description. You don't need the speed wheel for the fish finder to function just the transducer and transducer mount. You should mount that on the back of the boat towards the center but not too close to the motor and not too close to the side of the board. Don't let it hand below the level of the boat. That should keep it from getting hit by the trailer or dragging on the bottom. Try to make it as level as possible. The green and white wires may be for the speed wheel but i'd need a model number for clarification. Hope this helps.
