Can you see the bios screen?
when you press the power button, how far does it go?
Does the monitor dispaly anything at all? if so what?
does it report any error, like "NTLDR not found"?

Your Graphics may be gone? If the computer will not boot, no fan, nothing, it cound be the PSU, i'm not sure if you machine has a in-line fuse, but it's worth checking. This is a relatively new machine, right? Is it under warranty? Try here for Gateway support, perhaps it's a known issue: http://gateway-us.custhelp.com/app/answers/list/?cmpid=topnav

Unlock computer gateway

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password and privileges. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

It won't finish the start up

It is looking for something to boot from. Remove any CD and USB drives. Then try physically reconnecting the drive. From there you will need to verify in BIOS.

Check first boot in BIOS as well.

Why won't my Gateway PC DVD drive close?

Are all the Windows and Gateway updates and Hotfixes in? Look for a DVD rom fix on the Gateway website support. If there is no disk in the drive and it opens, you may want to replace it. You can try a work-around, I have no idea if it will solve the problem, but at boot open the BIOS, go to Boot sequence, Change HDD to boot first. DVD/CDrom 2nd or 3rd.

Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop Won't Boot!

3 BEEPS -RAM

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

Pc won't post or boot to bios when I press F2/F10 key Gateway DX4200-09

Hello, is it supposed to? on some machines you have to press DEL; others F8. Also, don't just press it once as you might be missing the point in the boot-up sequence where it 'looks' for some input from the kbd..... try and keep tapping the key as it's powering up. Regards, nicam49

I HAVE A MT6840 NOTEBOOK HALF THE TIME IT WON'T BOOT UP. IF I GET IT TO IT WILL FREEZE UP. FIRST IT WAS BOOTMGR I FIXED THAT THEN IT WAS PXE-E53 I DID NOT FIX THAT.NOW WINDOWS WILL BLOCK STARTUP PROGRAMS...

If you say that cooling helps, this sounds like a classic case of overheating, you have to clean the fan and air vents on the laptop, you can do this by buying a can of compressed air and blasting the air through the vents and fan to clear it of dust and fluff. I would also check that the system fan is working too.

hope this helps

regards
