Boot with a Win 7 installation disc then choose repair.

The fact that the windows product key sticker is missing is a concern, you may have a copy of window 7 instead of the original, however if windows 7 updates are coming through it would suggest a genuine copy because microsoft use software to detect if it's a fake and they would let you know and would effect security updates especially for microsoft office. But if you are getting a red light I would contact the seller to make right, if you decide you want a genuine copy with the product key you have no option but to buy.

Install the Restoration Disk into the optical drive, (DVD drive), and when asked perform a Full Installation. (Destructive Installation)

Or install a fresh new genuine copy of Windows, and perform a Full Installation.

(You may need to go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Options, set the first boot device to CDROM)

Don't have the Restoration Disk? (Or if you are the first owner did you make one?)
Try contacting Acer Support.

(From reading experiences with others, it would seem you would be better off just buying a new-genuine copy of Windows. Easier to obtain )

Remember, formatting in this mode will remove ALL personal data from the netbook.
No personal documents you have created, or downloaded, no programs you have installed or downloaded, no photos, music, videos, nada, will be saved.
The netbook will go back to the way it was Day 1 from the factory.

Try this program:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Unins... and disable automatic updates: START-> CONTROL PANEL-> AUTOMATIC UPDATES -> CHOOSE THE OPTION -> Turn off automatic updates <- ;-) .....

It sounds like the error code can be caused by reinstalling windows 7 on a computer that has had a prior install. If you did not reformat the hard drive during the reinstall process last time try reinstalling again and reformat when the option is given.

I assume you mean you are getting a message that your windows in not genuine, if that is the case refer back to the seller for a genuine key or if you are sure you have a genuine key then get in touch with microsoft, Hope this helps.

If you have no support discs & did not make a recoverty disc then you will have to contact the retailer you purchased the laptop from or Acer themselves. You should have documentation that will detail your product key though without this you may have issues getting the genuine copy of vista reinstalled. An alternative would be to buy a copy of windows 7 (if your laptop can take it) as it is far more stable & streamlined than Vista. or get a genuine copy of XP for cheaper.

Its probably also a good idea to take it back to the local computer guy & demand he reinstalls vista or gives you a genuine copy of XP. You can report him to the police for distributing illegal software too.

Unless you can find and verify you have an orignal CD there is nothing you an do but buy another license for th use of Vista. If you made a back up set up. Have yo ulooked at the bottom of the laptop. Most of the time it has the Vista sticker with the key for your windows use. reinstall and use that key.
