Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I bought a HDMI cable to connect my laptop to my HD tv. On the first run it ran perfectly - both video and audio were excellent. But now, for some unknown reason, the audio has stopped working completely. I can see the output levels moving up and down when I click on the sound icon in my task bar, but I can't hear any sound coming out of my tv. What could it be? Why would is suddenly stop working after only one day?

It must be a virus, so purchase a good antivirus software and run a through scan and also keep it updated.
Hope this solved your problem.

How do i connect my computer to my rca tv

Hi, You will need to provide the TV model and Laptop model.
This will allow us to determine what type of input/output ports is available for the TV & laptop.

Commonly, today's devices simply connects together through a HDMI cable, which functions as both your audio and video connection.

Does your computer have an HDMI port?
It should look like the the middle port in the picture below.

I have a HP m7570n. How do I use a flat screen tv as a monitor

This depends on the TV's available inputs. The Pavilion m7570n has only a VGA output in the standard configuration.

Thus if the TV has a VGA port, turn off the computer and the TV. Then connect a standard VGA (RGB or D-sub 15-pin) m/m cable between the computer and the TV. To use the TV speakers, connect a 3.5 mm audio patch cable between the computers Line-out (green speaker port) to the VGA audio in. Turn on the TV and set the input to VGA (with the Source or Input button on the remote or the TV). Then turn on the computer. Windows XP should find the correct resolution to work with the TV. (If you turn on the TV after turning on the computer, you may get an unsupported signal. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to restart the computer.) If it doesn't work, you may need to connect a different monitor and set the computer to a low resolution before connecting the TV and the computer.

If the TV only has composite or component video inputs, you will need a VGA to video converter (http://www.svideo.com/pctocomponent.html for example). A VGA to component cable will not work; those are for projectors that read an RGB input. TVs interpret YPbPr.

If you have added a video graphics card, you may have an HDMI and/or DVI port(s) on the card. In that case, check the specs of the TV. Some TVs will support HDMI or DVI-HDMI inputs from a computer. Others will not (since computer video signals are not the same as the signal from a set-top box). If you use a DVI-HDMI connector, make sure to use the HDMI port labeled for DVI and connect the audio cable as with the VGA connection. If you use an HDMI connection, you may need to set the sound properties to that of the HDMI port. (Find the control panel item for sound (under Hardware) and then select Manage Audio Devices. Set the Playback properties. If it doesn't work, use an audio patch cable.) Some TVs have RCA audio inputs for the HDMI-DVI connector. In that case, you will need a female 3.5 mm to RCA M/M adapter (if you use a 3.5 mm patch cable). There is a similar device if you want to use an RCA audio cable. You may need to enable the video ports on the graphics card before swapping monitors.

Some video cards have a TV out. In that case, connect the appropriate connector (should come with the video card). Then connect to the component, composite or S-video input on the TV.

Again turn off the TV and the computer before making any connections.

You will probably need to provide your own cables for must of these connection options.

I hope this helps.

I can get picture with hdmi connected but no sound. Do i have to connect the optical digital audio cable from PC to TV to get sound? Actually the video and sound go to stereo receiver first, video passes...

If your video card supports audio over hdmi in that case you need to find the s/pdif port on you motherboard and the port on your video card (usually right next to and sli or xfire bridge) then you can send the sound thru the hdmi. if not you will have to connect your optical audio cable or a 3.5mm audio out to rca left and right out to your receiver for audio. what video card and mother board are you using? if you know this i can tell you exactly where the ports are for the spdif cable to video card and mobo.

Connect my aspire 5332 to my digital tv

There are a few things that need to present or applicable for this to work.

First off you need to have either a HDMI cable that can be plugged into your TV( tv and laptop must have one for this option to work). And you'd need to have the channel on your TV set to which ever channel recieves HDMI input.

Second you could have a monotor cable with two ends to attach to your laptop and TV as well as an audio cable like you get for computer speakers to have a line in and a line out, you may need an adapter for the video, usually with newer tvs like my 25.5" LCD HDTV from Samsung they provided this cable and a adapter. After they are connected you'd still have to set the channel to the correct one for the input to receive a picture from your laptop for example my tv channel for my PC is called DVI and my HDMI connection is HDMI 1

If you dont have either of those then you would need an S video cord and a audio cord with it to connect your output (from laptop) to the input hole (into tv) for this to work. And the channel would have to correctly set again.

If none of these help please post in more detail.

LG Studioworks 552V monitor incompatibility problem.

Right, well, IF your TV has a DB15 Female Plug on it then you CAN, connect it up and it will work, as a second "Monitor". OR If the laptop, has a "Composite Video" a Yellow RCA socket, then you can, connect to the TV's Composite IN. & it will be a second monitor. Otherwise you cannot, the VGA signal is NOT compatible with a TV's input. SOME cards have a connector that plugs into the DB15 and to the TV, but they are "Special". In saying that though you can "Micky Mouse" things together and get an output, but it real poor quality, and disappointing results, there are various posts on the net about doing this if you wish.
Remember DRIVERS, you also need the drivers installed & setup correctly in order for the hardware to work. As a tip, When connecting to a TV, always connect like this......First, plug all cables into TV's correct Video input(s). Connect up the Sound, plug all cables into laptop, turn TV ON. NOW, start the laptop, you should now soon see the an image.
NOTE: Some laptops & other devices, have HDMI out, sometimes, the AUDIO is not passed through, the HDMI cable, & the Audio must be run from Audio/Line OUT on laptop to AV IN on TV.Also some laptops have a socket that a multi-way 4/5/6/7 pins. A connector plugs into this, you then can connect to these connections, as you would normally. Connecting this up will be easy. What you do is get a yourself a set of the right, for your setup, cables. That uses EITHER one of the formats, of these described, below. You will need, either, a THREE way Cable, or three separate " Coaxial Cored" Cables with RCA PLUGS on them. ColoredYellow, (Video) Red, & White. (Audio) AV. OR If you have SCARTConnection Sockets, it's a big Black Socket at rear of unit(s), you get aSCART Cable.& It's all inside. Now some units, use a standard calledComponent Video, that uses, a Green, Red, & Blue Plugs. Now, with the Component setup, you will also ,need, Two more Cables, for the AV Audio. these are, Red & White.(So with Component Video there are 5 Cables/Plugs in all). In any event ALL Cables go Color to Color, at each end, plugging into the corresponding Colored RCA Jacks, on either machine, or VCR or TV. Now if you have SCART, then it simply plugs in only one way. It is that simple. So connect up with the leads your set uses, and select the correct "Input" from TV/Remote, it is NOT on a "Channel" it will be on AV, AUX, and Press "Play" on VCR/DVD whatever.... should be all go.

How to connect pc to tv what do ineed or have to do

You have 2 options:

1) Buy a video card that has either RCA video output or HDMI output (depends what kind of connector your has). This is much cheaper, might cost about $20 or up.
OR
2) Buy an external USB video device that will destribute the singal to TV output, but it costs from $59 to $125.

I need to know how to run my ps3 thru the optical wire to my hdtv

Before you start ensure that you read the TV instruction manual to know which resolution supports it. Do not switch on the TV and your console

You can connect your Playstation 3 to your TV in three different methods:

  1. Connecting with an AV cable
  2. Connecting with an HDMI cable
  3. Connecting with an Optical Cable

Connecting with an AV Cable:

  1. You are supplied with a Composite AV cable which would typically look like the below image
  2. Connect the AV Multi Out Connector to the socket on the back of your PS3 Console.
  3. Match the colors of the Jacks with the connectors on the TV which says "Video in".

Connecting with an HDMI Cable:

HDMI cable is not supplied with the PS3. You need to purchase it seperately. This cable would enhance the audio-video quality of your TV.

  1. Just connect one end of the connector to the HDMI OUT connector socket on the back of the console
  2. Connect the other end to the socket on the back of your TV which says HDMI IN.

Connecting with an Optical cable:

You need to purchase an Optical cable if you wish to connect your PS3 console through a digital audio device (Home theater, AV receiver etc.,). You need to connect Video ouput seperately with a help of Video output cable (HDMI, AV Cable etc.,)

  1. Connect one end of the optical cable to "Audio Out" socket on the console
  2. Connect the other end to the audio receiver.

Note: You can also connect your console to the Internet to use the Playstation 3 internet capabilities. Here's how you do it:

The Playstation 3 only supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T type networks. It needs a High speed internet connection. Do not connect it to a standard telephone connection or cables that are not supported. It might cause a malfunction or damage to the system.
