If you still have warranty, take it back asp, they will have to repair or replace since this was manufacture defect, if that is not an option! Do a complete recovery on your operational system to factory setting.

The spec say it has a built-in microphone. If you are using Windows, open the sound controller and check that the slider on the microphone is turned at least half-way up. When you open the sound controller (speaker in the systray next to clock), the microphone is normally muted. To test, unmute and tap the microphone or speak into it. Make sure you have the volume turned up on the speakers too.

If it is covered up, surely it is not for use. I have an L300D and there is no sign of HDMI, just the usual Card Slotand VGA output along with the USB and 1394 type sockets. If you go online to www.toshiba.com and have a look at the specification of your laptop, there will be the information you require. Hope that helps.
remove the keyboard then remove the wirless card u can see jumper ... short jumper for 15 second... if not keep short jumper and turn on the mechine for 15 second.. hope this way u can remove....thanks
There are no dummy ports on laptops....could be a cold solder point on the motherboard connections or a wire connection is loose. There is also the possibility that the usb controller for that port has failed. Below is the link to the service and repair manual for that laptop......
Resetting your USB Controllers
I'm going to assume that you're running XP (home or pro). Recently I had to refresh my USB ports. This is the sequence I used.
1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties
2. Click Hardware
3. Click Device Manager
4. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controller
5. Right-click each USB device listed and select Uninstall
6. Click OK to confirm removal of each device
Note: Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all devices under UBS Controller are removed
7. Shut down computer.
CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected instead of Restart.
8. Wait a few seconds and turn computer on. When it reboots you will see "Windows has detected new or added hardware"
Note: You will have to insert your Windows CD, if prompted.
These steps will refresh the USB ports.
Added Notes: 1) If your mouse is a USB you will have to use the
keyboard to shut down your computer. 2) It would be wise to unplug
everything from your USB ports EXCEPT your mouse and/or keyboard before
you restart the computer to avoid Windows replicating any printers,
scanners, digi-cams, etc. Once Windows has refreshed your USB
controllers and ports, shut down again. reconnect, and restart.
