Question about Dell TrueMobile 2300 Wireless Router (tm23003)

1 Answer

Passcode forgotten I just purchased a second computer (Apple) and it is picking up my wireless 2300 but it is asking for PASSCODE. My old laptop Dell is connecting just fine, but I don't remember the "Passcode" to enter into my new computer. Any idea how to find out what /where it is?

The passcode it's asking is the wireless security that was setup on your router. it could be a wep or wpa.
in order to get it, you need to access the setup page of your router. for most routers, all you need to is open a web browser and enter the router's ip address.
i can't provide the exact steps since i don't know the exact model of your router.
you can try to ask the person who manages your router for the wireless key.

hope this'll help you but if not, provide me the exact brand and model of your router

ciao!

i'm sorry, i did not see that the brand and model of your router is on the subject line.

anyways, below are the steps that you can follow.

    1. Log into the Web configuration of your router at http://my.router (or the default address http://192.168.2.1) (Note: the default password is "admin")
    2. Click on Basic Settings.

    3. Click on Wireless Security. This page will now give you your passcode (Note: if your encryption is set to WPA, make sure that your new laptop can support this type of encryption so it can connect properly. if the new laptop does not support WPA, you may need to change your encryption to WEP and need to reconnect the other wireless computers using WEP)

    ciao!

I need help to disconnect a second computer to my internet

Disconnect? I assume you mean to "Connect" a second computer. You haven't supplied much information as to how you are trying to connect, so I'll assume that you are trying to connect via wireless. If your router has been set up with encryption you will need the passcode to connect. You haven't mentioned what operating system you are working with so again I'll assume it's Windows XP and you are using a laptop.

Make sure your wireless radio is turned on then look down to the bottom right corner and you should see an icon that shows your internet connection status. Right click on it and select "View available wireless networks". It will show all available connections and yours should show on it as a good signal (if you are close to the router). Select the connection and click on "Connect". If you don't have the router set up with encryption it will tell you that the connection is not protected, just click on connect again. If you have encryption set up on the router it will tell you there is encryption and will ask for the passcode/password.

Type in the passcode and then type it in again on the second line (Vista and Windows 7 will only ask for the code once). Click on "remember this connection" when you see the option. You should now be connected and cruising the net! I hope this helped out, but without more information I can't go much further. Cheers!

Lost my passcode key and linksys wants to charge me $40 to retrieve it. Is there another way?

To get your passcode for your wireless network, you need to have a computer/laptop hardwired to the routed for the meantime to access the setup page. When one of your computer is wired to the router, please follow these steps.

1. Open a browser (IE, Firefox, etc.) and on the address bar type in 192.168.1.1
2. A window will appear that will ask for a Username and Password. On the Username leave it blank. On the Password type admin.
3. You will see the setup page of the route. Click on the Wireless tab.
4. Below the Wireless tab, click on the Wireless Security sub tab. Then you will see the wireless passcode of your Linksys router.

My router is 2 years old and yesterday, i started to get the message saying i am not connected to the network. Does that mean the router is no longer working ?

What is giving you thisw message? If it is on a laptop, accessing router wirelessly, then (on the laptop) go into Network Settings and verify that your computer is set up to use a Private network, as Public networks may not let you see other computers on the network. If it is set to Private, then your router may have stopped working. Try resetting the router by sticking a paper clip into the Reset hole, which resets the router to Factory Settings. Go ahead and connect to the router with a CAT-5 cable and use IE to go go to http://192.168.1.1 and complete setting (simplified) as follows:
In Wireless Section, Choose your SSID (Network Name), set security in the section below that by choosing security method and passcode. This passcode MUST be used by all users to access thev wireless signal. Let me know ( jaye.ellen@gmail.com ) if this does not help.

Passcode for 3com router

type in the password to enter the set jup (as it says, admin is the default) click setup wizard, put a dot in pppoa (I'm assuming you're in the UK) click next, put in your user name and password, vpi/vcn 0 and 38 and encapsulation VC MUX, click next put channel to 11, choose an ssid (i leave mine at 3Com), click next, check all the data is correct then click on apply. Now to set up the encryption start internet explorer (blue e) in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press enter in the new screen, type in the password to enter the set jup (as it says, admin is the default) click wireless settings on the left hand side of the screen, click setup wizard select wpa-psk from the drop down box where it says pre-shared key, type in a MEMORABLE password and then click apply. Now you will lose your wireless signal. Panic ye not! Click on the smatt TV in the lower right hand side of the screen (this is called the sys-tray) you will now see that the wireless icon which looks a bit like a telly with 3 yellow arcs coming out of it's right hand side has a red cross on it. Click it once, click view wireless networks and then on the new screen click refresh network list. You will after a few seconds see your network -click on it and then on connect. A new box will come up asking you for the network key aka password. Enter the memorable password you have just forgotten in the upper and lower boxes and press enter. Et voila! you now have an encrypted wireless network and you can only get onto it if you know the memorable password!
