if you trying to use universal remote, you may find web address, printed somewhere on the remote control. Appeal to the site and retrieve your codes. If not, there is a site: "remotes.com". You shall find there picture of your remote and codes table. If you trying to use cable or "dish" remote control, you may need to contact provider for help. "dish" will allow you to program TV right of "setup" portion of the "on screen" menu.Worst case scenario: get another universal remote and try not to lose the codes table.

Hi, I have a few things for you to try.
1. Your TV "6424TF" seems to have problems with its IR "Infra-red" sensor going bad. This is a common problem with your model TV. If this is the case no remotes will work on your TV.
2. Because I do not know the model of your universal RCA remote I cannot tell you how to program it.. please supply the model number of it. Try looking under the battery cover. might be an "RCR..." number. I need to know this because all universal remotes have different codes and programming methods.
3. To know 100% if its your TV that's bad you will need the original remote for your TV. I have already looked up your original remote and you can purchase a brand new replacement that will work right out of the package (assuming your TV IR sensor isn't broke) here: RR0108UD for all sylvania TVs . no programming is necessary for this remote.

might be able to use the cable co remote and autosearch thru the codes, but its too hard to explain, the cable tech should have ran that procedure. unfortunately, rca has 50 million models. it is common to have a tv and yes rca for sure, to not take the codes. sometimes the tv is too new for the cable company remotes to work. i am leaning toward the tv too new theory. give it six months and i bet there will be a new remote version.
