mp3 has nothing to do with it, when you burn you convert it to wave anyway

I have an Eclipse 5342r and only use Maxell CDRs. I've had no problems with
skipping ever. My friends 5340 also has no problems skipping either.
BTW, did you find yourself a SC2?

I have heard comlaints of Eclipse's tendancy to skip, so it might be the
machine. But, FWIW, neither of my Eclipse heads have any skipping
problems.
Have you tried more than one type of media?
