I have a xerox 5312/5214 Copier and it is showing a message of U4. In the manual it says to call for service. The machine is an older machine and I don't know how much it would cost to fix. Is there any advice you could give me as to what the problem might be?

The U4 code means you have a fser heat problem. The fuser is the assembly that heats up and "fuses" the toner onto the paper. It is located near where the paper exits the machine. There is a reset procedure you can use to try and see if the code will reset. If it does not then you would need to have it serviced. It is quite old and there is a concern wether it would be worth repairing. I would use www.partsdrop.com to get parts or more information if you need to persue a repair. I have used them quite a bit in the past.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Diagnostics:
To enter diagnostics: Turn on the copier while holding the '0' button...all control panel lamps will light.
To enter a code: Enter the first part of the code followed by the 'Start' button, then the second part of the code followed by the 'Start' button again.
Note: If an invalid code is entered, 'Er' is displayed. Press 'Stop' and enter a new code. *To clear a fuser code: Enter diagnostics, enter '52' followed by 'Start'. If a fuser code is current, the number '1' will flash, enter '0' to clear the code followed by 'Start' to lock in your selection. Press 'Stop' and then you can shut down.

Copier is a 214 and shows U4 code

turn on power while holding down "0", press "stop/clear" and wait 30 seconds for optics to finish initializing, then enter "401" then "print", shut off machine, wait 10 seconds and turn back on. code should now be cleared.

Copier is a 214 and shows U6 code

A U-6 means the memory on the main board failed.
If the machine is old, the battery on the board is old and not holding the values in the machine.
Replace the main board will correct the problem.
Since it is in the middle deep in the machine you might need to have Xerox repair it for you if they still provide service to this model.
Good luck.

Xerox Work center Pro 423

Hi,

The most common explanation for the error 'U4-2' in all the 'Xerox' machines is "Fuser warm up failure occurred". I am very sorry that such a problem has occured for you. It cannot be solved by you, if you are not a qualified technician and without proper tools.

Please do call the nearest service centre for a visit and they will probably solve it in a day. Remember, they need the service manual procedures for solving it properly.

Don't worry, it is a very common problem. But only authorised service people can help you in a good way.

Bye

:)

Have a nice time.

My machine shows a U4 code

U4 code refers to a fuser heat failure, you'll probable find the fuser roll is stone cold .Possible cause is open circuit heater or overheat thermostat popped.Either way you will need to pull out the fuser unit and check continuity of the components

Xerox Copier 214

A U4 is a fuser overtemperature.
You can hold down the "0" while powering the machine on. That will enter the machine into diagnnostics.
Next enter code 401, and press start, See of that clears the problem.
If it does. Remove the fiser and clean the buildup off the thermistor.
If it doesnt you will most likely have to replace the fuser.

Xerox Copier Machine - Error U4

The fuser is not warming up.
On that machine under the web there is a thermal fuse on a white plastic mount, it has one screw through it.
It is most likely blown. Possibly caused by a jammed paper in the fuser.
That fusable link needs to be replaced.
