Trying to hook up a linksys wireless-g 2.4 ghz to a dsl modem for wireless how do i do that

Connect the DSL modem with a LAN cable to the WAN port on the Linksys wireless router. If you have not already configured the Linksys wireless settings, this is the next step.
To configure the wireless router and prevent unauthorized access to your wireless network, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I have the acer 8.9 inch with a built intnet wireless care. The one that connectst to the internet throutht the air waves Just as if it needs no router or modem, but i cannot connect. What do i do

It does need a Router and Modem. Every computer does. Even if you bought the new Verizon mini pc, it needs the towers signal since that is the router. Wireless just means that you don't have to drag a wire from the computer to the router. You need a wireless router that will attach to the modem for this to work. Otherwise the signal from the computer just goes into the air into nowhere. If you go to stores that have "hot spots" or "wifi" and use your computer, that just means that they have a router that you're signal is hooking up to.

Router greatly slows up/downloads to 25% of direct from modem

I am using a Belkin N1 Vision router with Vonage and i am having no issues with speed at the moment. What OS and connection are you using. If its Vista and Wireless make sure you are using AES encryption and not TKIP as my wireless network was painfully slow using TKIP and lightning with AES and WPA2

I CAN NOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET ..using Linksy wireless remote

the wireless card installed to your computer is working..as you said you can view all wireless networks...your computer is good too...the only issue is you cant connect to the wireless router...

turn off and unplug the power cable of the Modem
turn off and unplug the power cable the router

wait for 30 seconds
plug in and turn on the modem, wait for all the light turn to solid green ( no blinking lights )

then power on the router

if you saw the wireless icon light turn solid...

go to your computer...right click the wireless icon...select repair

if this doesnt work....reset your internet router by press and hold the reset button behind the router near the power plug (atleast 15 sec)

then connect your PC..the wireless network dont have the WEP key anymore because of the reset..you can reconfigure and put back the WEP key when you get connected.

I have the 4 port Linsky Router.I have a Sony laptop connected to a Sony wireless routerI also have a movie download box. When I connect both to the modem separetely, bolth the laptop and the mvie download...

this is because your wireless router is a router, and your linksys is also a router. Both are attempting to do routing, and they're colliding with each other.

Go into your linksys router's settings, and set it's IP address to have the SAME subnet mask as your wireless router, (The third number in the ip address has to be the same)

e.g. if your wireless router is 192.168.0.1, make sure your linksys is 192.168.0.2
if your wireless router is 192.168.2.1, make sure your linksys is 192.168.2.2

After that, turn OFF the dhcp server on your linksys router (do this in the linksys config page).

After that, plug the LAN port of your linksys to the LAN port of your wireless router.

Your linksys will now be acting like a "Switch" which is an extension of your network. Voila!

How to connect wireless router, Netgear WGR614, to my computer?

4 steps to set up your home wireless network
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. If you have a desktop computer, make sure that you have an available USB port to plug the wireless network adapter into. If you don't have any open USB ports, buy a hub to add additional ports.
2.
Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

I have Verizon Fios install in my home. I use to have Comcast. This is the situation, before the Fios my linksys wireless router was connected directly to a modem. Now my linksys wireless router is...

Your IP address for you linksys router needs to be changed.  More than likely there using the same IP address such as 192.168.0.1.
You have to convert your linksys router to a switch and change the IP address range it uses to on that doesn't conflict with the Verizon router.
10.150.1.1 should work.

I have a computer hooked up to bell sympatico. How do I connect my new compaq to it? Thanks

If you have only a DSL or Cable modem, that doesn't have an integrated Router, then you'll need to get a router to use more than one computer. The broadband modem, will connect to the uplink port of the router, and give you usually 4 wired ports and up to 50 wireless connections.

Here is an example from linksys

I just bought a Linksys router WRT150N this evening. I have a Dell router that is problematic. My modem and existing router are on one side of the house , my Dell desktop on the other with "no"...

If you have an extra PCI slot on your PC, you can purchase a wireless card for it, and it is fairly simple to install. You can also purchase USB based wireless adapters for your desktop. This also assumes that the router and the PC are not too far apart, but as long as you could get a signal using say a laptop, you should also be able to get it using the PCI or USB adapter.

Good Luck,

James

Connecting a router

To connect more than one computer to same network, you need to use a router. Two modems will not work on same network.
My suggestion:
Buy a wireless modem router for cable broadband (and eventually a wireless network card for the other computer.
Here is an example: Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B 4-Port Cable/DSL
Ask retailer to get right model for your broadband.
Connect the remote computer with wireless.
