I would suggest removing Windows OneCare and all versions of AVG using Add/Remove programs. Then you can install Avast from You will need to choose the correct language and save the file to your desktop. After it completes, double click the file to install the program.

Once you install Avast I would suggest registering it for free at If you register it you get 1 year free. Once it advises that it is about to expire, you can return to this link and get a new license key.

Also, on the Windows Update issue, I would suggest that you rename C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution to C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution.old. This should cause Windows update to redownload windows updates.

Is there any free software to remove virus. If,please mention web address

Hi, there are many free anti-virus programs you can download. Some of the good ones are:

Avast -

If your computer is already infected, installing an anti-virus program might not be effective, so try Microsoft's free online virus scanner, Windows Live OneCare safety scanner, which can be found at:

You'll have to run it from Internet Explorer, and you can choose whether you want it to scan your system to optimize your speed and performance, or just scan it for viruses.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

I would like to install symantec antivirus to my pc is it possible to download it freely. Which is version is most suitable to remove threts, trojens, viruses etc.,

By freely, I assume you mean you don't want to pay for it. The answer is no, it is not free.

I would recommend AVAST which is free for personal use.

I don't get paid for advice so if this answers your problem, I would appreciate 4 thumbs.

How to run anti-virus?

First of all you should have antivirus software disk or Antivirus setup file which you have downloaded

If you do not have one, download one of these and once the download is complete, Run the Setup file. It will complete the installation.

Once the Software Installation is complete. On the right side corner of your pc ( where the Clock/time is ) you will find an icon. you can click on it and run the Scan option to scan virus in your pc

Little red shield keeps telling me I have a security problem

You have a Rouge Anti-Virus malware, this is a virus do not download it will make it worse, the idea is to take over your computer and force you to buy the antivirus program which is actually just a list of places to download free virus removal software, All is not lost, if you have Virus software do a scan now and try to find it, if not download AVG Free Anti-Virus and that will take care of it.These people are from Russia and once they get your credit card number they will try to empty your bank. Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. lone99star
