If both the controller and the flyback is faulty it is best to buy a new monitor than to repair.
The data sheet of the controller IC can be downloaded from the link below:

Sears 32 inch bright horisantal line across screen maybe 1/4 in rest of screen black have sound

Hi, bronco, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. This could be the horizontal output transistor, also called HOT. It also could be cold solder joints that need to be resoldered where they have lost connection or contact. This is a easy fix. If you have some soldering experience. Remove the back from the TV, the HOT is located on a flat aluminum piece. It will be a three leg (pin) transistor with a screw at the top of it. Make sure the TV is unplugged, slide the circuit board out, on most boards will be held in place with screws. With the board solder side-up and with a desoldering iron, remove it and the screw. You can order parts here www.mateletronics.com . Give them the number off the transistor. You will need some heat sink compound when replacing the transistor to the shield. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Good luck.......John

Ctx pv720a monitor goes blank

This is what inverter board looks like:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=CTX%20PV720

Look for bad caps also, more likely to need new inverter board, warning, you can have bad lamp assembly also.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Hi,

If you are referring to a conventional CRT monitor, then the fault you have described is indicative of a cold solder in the vertical section. Often, this would be any of the pins of the vertical IC. The vertical IC is the only IC that is heatsinked and sits at the back of the flyback transformer.

This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

DS25390 Verticle foldover

If you have a picture but the top is folded over, your vertical IC is probably good and you need to replace the pump-up capacitor next to the IC. When the pump-up cap (typically a 47 or 100uF 35V cap) is open then the picture will have white lines and foldover at the top. The typical vertical output IC is the LA7838, but I am not familiar with exactly which output IC your set uses.
