My brand new home theatre (SC-PT580) shuts down 5 seconds after i power it up and the message "F61" flashes for half a second. I read the user manual and it says "check and correct the speaker connection. If this does not solve the problem contact your dealer". I took it to my dealer today and they did not give me a clear answer. They said they will try to solve it and come back to me. Is this common? What would the solution be? The guys at the dealer maintenance center reluctantly said "we'll do a software reset and it will fix it". I did not believe it. And if the fixes it.. will it ever come up again? Thanks a lot. As they, if you want a guarantee, buy a toaster. There is no way anyone could ever assert a problem will be forever fixed.

If you Google ore even just search Fixya for "F61" you'll find a zillion hits, so it's VERY COMMON.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Reading code f61

pop cover plug in with med to light pressure on the heat sink press down gently and push one way just a tad , press power , see how long to shut down. do same other direction. what you should find is that the solder connections are bad and need to be redone. this is not the first pan. that has had this problem, some of there other stereos do to.

Got a code "F61" ,shuts down.any haelp please. thk

Open the amplifier and clean/replace the fan.
If it doesn't turn when you power it on after cleaning it, put some oil on its bearing sleeve.
Never power on this device while speakers are not connected!

Hope this solves your problem!

Repeated F61 fault code on Panasonic Home cinema system Model: SC-HT990 Is it the fan in the sub woofer?

Hello

F 61 error means the failure of FAN
most probably dust in the fan made it to stop working so clean the dust and connect the fan to an external supply of 12v(using red and black wire) for 5 minutes and reconnect it to the unit otherwise replace the fan with new one.
Surely this will solve the problem.

Kind regards
Andrea

SC-BT 100 Error Code f61

Had the same problem. Found that the code refers to the cooling fan. Could be that the fan is dusty or not running when the system starts up. I removed the fan with the two screws and reseated the plug. Make certain that the short, black wire (that seems to go to nothing) is securing the plug to the board.

The F61 indicates a problem detected in the output amp stage and the unit us shutdown to prevent further damage. If you can supply the model number, I can give you the part required and the approximate cost.

My Panasonic SC-A240 shuts down displaying the error f61.

Several components in the power supply maybe faulty, especially Tranisitor Q5110, Resistor R5114 and Diode D5102 on the power supply board. Check and replace these and also resolder the regulator IC's on the heatsink.
