system not found in my experience generally leads to a damaged or loose hard drive, try to open the cover at the bottom side of the machine, and reseat the hard drive, if it still says system not found, get a 2.5 inch drive case, put your laptop drive in the case and connect it to another machine, if you can access the drive great! save all your files and once complete return the drive to your machine and try to reinstall the OS from a dvd then reinstall your files.. and if still having the same problem replace hard drive thanks.
most sony laptops either have the hard drive internal and either access is via a back plate with a few screws underneith or you have to undo all bottom screws then were the track pad is the top borrom half with either come away reveling the hard disk or the complete bottom will come away.
The hard drive is inside of the laptop and not accessible from the outside. The way to get to the hard drive is to take out all the screws from the bottom of the laptop, take the keyboard out and there may be some screws there that need to be removed. The dvd drive needs to come out and where the dvd drive normally is, check for screws there.
At this point you can remove the top cover assembly and you will see the hard drive. Remove the screws that are holding the hard drive in place and then it will come out.
turn the laptop upside down ...remove a partial plastic cover attached by a screw on its edge ( there is a small sign showing the hard drive usually) after taking the cover of plastic away the hard disk is visible . pull it gently aside (sideway)
and replace it with the new one.
There are panel/covers on the base or near the bottom edge of most laptops these enclose the RAM and hard drive. Remove these screws and covers to reveal the hard drive and possibly the hard drive carrier.
Before you attempt this I suggest to login to the Sony WEB site and download the drivers for the graphics and sound device including modem and LAN if you don't already have them and back up your data. You will need these drivers when you install a new and larger hard disk and the operating system.
Turn your Vaio upside down and look for an easy access panel or release lever to remove the hard drive carriage. You will probably need a small Philip's screw driver to remove the carriage, but I don't think you need to remove the keyboard.
Well, it's not good news. Official word from Sony:

Can the notebook hard drive be upgraded or replaced
Hard drive upgrades in the notebook computer are not supported.
* Some notebook computer have instructions for warranty replacement of the hard drive by an end user. * Although third-party upgrades may be available for some models, they are not supported. * If the hard drive needs service, repair should be done by an authorized Sony service center. * External hard drives may be attached if the appropriate connections are available.
This basically means complete disassembly of the laptop is required to get at the hard drive. Not that it can't be done. Just that it'll be a major pain in the .... you know.
Usually the laptop hard disk is only reside in the side of the laptop. Sometime you need to remove the small cover first before you can see the screw. Look in the right side of the laptop or in the back but there is also laptop model that the hard disk is below of the keyboard.
all machines are slightly different for accessing the components, but if you flip over the laptop look for some screws on the bottom that hold an access plate. the hard drive is about three by four inches.
