Question about Whirlpool 24 in. GU2548XTP Built-in Dishwasher

13 Answers

Dishwasher will not start

Accusense button and heated dry button will light, but no other buttons will. Pushing cancel starts a 2 minute cycle where the machine makes noise, but does not really do anything that I can tell.

    Machine Model is Whirlpool GU2548XTPQ0

  • map12c02 Jul 24, 2008

I read in some forums about resetting using heated dry and sani rinse as well as normal and heated dry. This did not work. I also tried holding start for 30 secs. This makes the normal button flash, but does not seem to help either.

  • map12c02 Jul 25, 2008

Delayed Start button will light and display 1H, but does not initiate after 1 hour. Also in my first comment I noted that pressing cancle starts a 2 min cycle with a noise. I belive that is an attempt to drain, so the pump turns on and that is the noise I hear.

  • map12c02 Jul 25, 2008

Tried unplugging washer for 15 mins and did not help.

  • map12c02 Jul 25, 2008

The washer still exhibits the same symptoms.

  • map12c02 Jul 25, 2008

The clean light is not flashing. I can not get the cycle to start.

  • map12c02 Jul 25, 2008

The start indicator is not flashing.

  • map12c02 Jul 25, 2008

I know that I am getting power because I am getting lights. The cancel button starts the drain cycle, so I know the door is shut. Any other ideas on how to reset the electronics?

  • map12c02 Jul 28, 2008

The sequencr of normal wash and heated dry does not work. When I unplugged the washer for 25 mins, and tried the reset sequence, the sani rinse button lit, but did not flash. I hit the cancel/drain buttin and it started the drain sequence. The sani-rinse button went off and did not come back on.

  • map12c02 Jul 28, 2008

Still trying to figure it out.

  • map12c02 Jul 28, 2008

I shut off the breaker for 30 mins.

  • map12c02 Jul 28, 2008

Washer does not start, but power is getting ot the panel since the drain cycle works and some lights come on when pushed.

  • map12c02 Jul 29, 2008

    no error codes

  • map12c02 Aug 03, 2008

I think the problem is narrowed down to something wrong with the latch sensors or the circuit board. When I press accusense the display shows "- - " which is supposed to mean not latched. This is the only button that allows the "- -" to light up. I took a multimeter to both sensors. The sensor to the left shows 0 volts and then when depressed shows 5 volts. The other sensor shows 120 volts and then when depressed shows 0 volts (I thought that was odd that this sensor showed 0 volts when depressed).

The washer has worked a couple of times by pressing on the left and right and center of the door just right, but this took 15 minutes and is not repeatable. I then thought maybe it is the display buttons. This is probably not it either since holding the start button for 30 secs makes the normal light flash, showing that the start button is registering.

This leaves me to the question
#1 is it a sensor (they both seem to either show voltage or no voltage)
#2 is it the circuit board?
#3 is it the button panel?

    HELP...................

    Any ideas?

  • map12c02 Aug 03, 2008

This model does not have a power button

  • map12c02 Aug 07, 2008

Replaced circuit board and door sensors. Now the Normal button is flashing, but will not start.

  • map12c02 Aug 07, 2008

Problem Fixed. It was one of the connectors going to the circuit board that was not properly connecting.

  • Door latch.
Make sure door is closed and properly latched.
  • Delay start option.
If delay start option is available, has it been set and is unit still in time delay before starting.
  • Cycle setting.
Check to see if cycle is set correctly (refer to Operating Instructions in the "Use & Care Manual").

My dishwasher is not the same model but a similar one and it will not do a proper cycle unless I open the door all the way down before I program my cycles at about 2/3 of the way up and then close the door. Strange huh? But it works everytime. I know it sounds simplistic, but it works for me.

There is a potential over heating condition in the wash pump motor. In rare instances , this could cause a fire. The drain pump imotor is not affected and can be reused. Replace the pump-motor assy with motor kit # 8194160

If this not start at all then you have to continuity test from the power input to the circuit panel board.

I believe the reset sequence is accomplished by pushing the NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons in that sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the CANCEL button. Let me know if this helps. If not, there should be a tech sheet that came with the dishwasher located behind the lower kick panel under the door. This sheet includes all diagnostics codes and troubleshooting diagram...

    Hope this may help;

It doesn't work at all If your dishwasher doesn't work at all, check these:

    Power from the house
    Door switch
    Wiring
    Timer or selector switch
Power from the house Is there power getting to the dishwasher? This can be difficult to test, because dishwashers are usually wired directly to an electrical circuit, rather than plugged into the wall. But at least check for a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker.

Door switch The door switch is important because, if it's defective, the dishwasher won't work at all. To reach it, you need to remove the control panel cover, or sometimes the interior liner of the door. If it's defective, you need to completely replace it.

Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dishwasher, burns and breaks the connection. If that's the problem, the wires must be repaired/replaced as necessary. If that's not the problem, check the wiring to the door switch, the wiring between the door and the lower part of the dishwasher, and the wiring to the timer. Repair any broken, burned, brittle, or defective wiring, using the proper appliance-grade wire and connectors.

Timer or selector switch Although it's uncommon, the timer or the selector switch may be defective. If so, you need to replace the defective part, because neither of these can be repaired.

Is the Start/Resume indicator flashing? Opening the door or
interrupting the power stopped the cycle. Close the door and
    press START/RESUME.
Does the Start/Resume indicator flash 3 times when you
press START/RESUME? The dishwasher is waiting for you to
open the door after the last cycle. Open and close the door,
    then press START/RESUME.
Is the door closed tightly and latched?
(NOTE: On models with a dual-digit display, the control
displays “- -” during a cycle if it believes the door is not
    latched.)
Is the right cycle selected? Refer to the “Cycle Selection
    Charts.”
Is there power to the dishwasher? Has a household fuse
blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?
Has the motor stopped due to an overload? The motor
automatically resets itself within a few minutes. If it does not
    restart, call for service.
Is the water shutoff valve (if installed) turned on?
It is normal for certain cycles to repeatedly pause for several
    seconds during the main wash.

If your dishwasher doesn't work at all, check the power
supply, door latch switch, selector switch and timer, and the wiring.
If your model has a child lock-out feature, verify that the feature is
set to the Off position. Make sure cycle has ended. Make sure the Delay
Start option is not set for a delayed start.

If you can, verify that you have power at the dishwasher. This
might be difficult because many dishwashers are wired directly into the
household wiring under the counter. Usually only the portable
dishwashers get plugged into a wall outlet. You will also want to check
your fuse box or circuit breaker panel for a blown fuse or tripped
      breaker.

The door latch switch is a safety switch that prevents the
dishwasher from working if it is defective. When working properly, the
switch doesn't allow power through it when the plunger is out, and it
allows power when the plunger is in. If the plunger is broken or if the
internal parts are not working properly, power is stopped at the switch
and it needs to be replaced.

The timer and the selector switch are other possibilities. If
one of these is defective, your dishwasher won’t operate
normally, and the part will need to be replaced.

Running the dishwasher regularly may help prevent any seals
from drying out and sticking. This includes the motor seals.

Visually inspect the wiring to see if any looks disconnected
or burned. Repair or replace as necessary.

    Hi

If clean light is blinking then it may be an issue with heater circuit, door switch or wash pump, please reset the power to the dishwasher. After, 5 minutes check if you are still getting the same error. If yes, then it is a water heating fault. To resolve this error try pressing this reset sequence-- Heat Dry - Normal - Heat Dry - Normal or High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry or Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry, Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry or High Temp Wash-Heated Dry-High Temp Wash-Heated Dry . Now let the unit run for 2-3 minutes and then you press the Cancel/Drain button and allow it to completely drain and reset. If this doesn't work then it's an issue with the wash pump not pumping the water past the heater efficiently or due to lack of water to heat. Please make sure that heater is not open circuited and is heating the water efficiently. You'll have to check the heater using a multimeter; the meter should read between 3000 to 3300 ohms (Use multimeter on Rx1 ohm setting). If heater is fine then make sure water pressure is optimum and fill valve is working fine. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

The "cancel" light blinks on and off rapidly. If we push start for the cycle the dishwasher clicks off and on intermitently.

    Hi,
To solve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence
-high temp wash -heated dry -high temp wash -heated dry
After doing this sequence all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cycle finish (1-2 minutes). You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.
    Thank you!

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

''Clean'' light is blinking, ''Cancel'' does not reset the cycle.

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses, then repeats...

When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it stops working and locks the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

    -high temp wash
    -heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring).
It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

    Good luck!

I don't know if your dishwasher is the same as mine, but this solution may be what you need. For electronic panel dishwashers made by whirlpool (mine is a whirlpool but with a kenmore name on it), some of them can be reset by pushing in sequence the Heated-Dry button followed by the Normal-Wash button, several times in a row. that is... Push Heated-Dry, then Normal-Wash, Then Heated-Dry, then Normal-Wash... Repeat until all lights light up. When all lights light up you can stop. The washer will then take 5-10 minutes to go through a diagnostics cycle, which is about 18-25 steps or so. You can bypass one step at a time by pushing the STart button. This may not apply to your washer, but is pure gold if it does. Good Luck!

The part is covered by warranty. However, the labor is not and Whirlpool will not replace the part without having someone service the unit. Every place I checked wanted $100 just to come out and tell me what was wrong. Any service would be extra. Seems like Whirlpool figured out how not to stand behind its products. They should be held accountable.
