You could try a video reset on the ps3 or a factory reset. The factory reset will erase all data on the unit, the video reset will now.
The video reset is done by pressing and holding the power button for 3-5 seconds from a power off state, the unit will beep 1 time indicating the video is reset.
Here is how you do a factory reset:
This will wipe all the saved games and data from the machine but I have found it to correct most issues with the ps3.
You will need to push the power button to turn on the unit, but keep the power button held down for about 30 seconds. You will hear a beep (resetting the video settings), then 2 more beeps. After the 3rd beep you can let go of the power button and it should take you to the set up screens like you just got it out of the box.
You will lose everything you have saved doing this but it seems to make the system run just like out of the box again. If this does not fix the problem then it most likely is a hardware issue and may need serviced or replaced.
