I have the same TV, had the same problem. After researching, I concluded that it was my IC convergence modules. I called around to see about repairing them, avg cost was going to be $300-$400, I decided to try it myself, figuring if I screwed it up, I'd just buy a new LCD TV. I ordered new Modules for $35 online, but ended up not needing them. When I took the TV apart, I found out that a couple solder joints on the existing IC convergence modules cracked. I resoldered them and works like new again. I had no tv repair experience before this, and thought it was quite easy, just take your time and be careful. This link helped me along the way, solution #2. Thanks, DJ http://www.fixya.com/.../...top_bottom_screen

I am having a "bowtie" effect on mine. When it turns on it is fine for about 30 seconds then the picture bows from the middle to the bottom corners and from the middle to the top corners so the red/blue/green colors are split most at the corners. It eventually would fix itself after the TV was ON for a while. But now it is taking longer and longer to right itself.

Is this what your TV was doing?

Could you repost the link to your fix, it looks like it is broken.

Thanks.

There seems to be two problems with the unit. The first symptom indiates your convergence IC's needs to be replaced. The second symptom coud be a several things, 1. Bad connections on the Crt board of the green tube, 2. The 200v screen bias voltage supplied by the flyback could have bad connections on it. Seems you have intermittent cold solder joints. Check the D board around the Flyback area for bad connections, or old grey looking solder connections all should look shiny. 3. The Green Crt maybe going faulty, the lines going thru the picture are scan lines and indicates that the Screen controls are to high. But i know you have'nt adjusted these so i would suspect the Green Crt is Faulty. But check solutions 1&2 first, One way to find out if its bad is to unplug the green crt board from the tube and turn the set on if it stays on and does'nt shut down then it is faulty, also while turning on look at the crt's neck for sparks which indicates arching in the tupe and will need to be replaced. Replacing the Convergence IC's will solve the distorted pic issue.

RED ARCH ON LEFT BOTTOM CORNER

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
You can see some example photos and find a solution here...

Colors arched and overlapping

if the option for convergence is still listed under the setting section of the on screen menu, then you need a convergence power supply board. If the convergence option is missing from the menu you need the ITC222 convergence missing repair kit. You can get either one at the following link they include instructions for the repair.

Color distortion and arched picture

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Picture(Color Convergence)

Go to menu look for convergence on menu if it is not on menu then you have a open fuse located next to Flyback Transfomer on deflection board.

Re Degaussing

Now Degaussing and convergence are two different things, if you say its degaussing then you should have just a color differential in a certain area, meaning the color should not be arched, everything that passes through should pass throu only with the changing of color. Now if its a convergence the the color may lift upward in an arch, likely separated from the other colors, Red, Blue,or Green. So now which do you think you have? Deguassing usually give you a highish green color or yellow

Picture not lined up

You will need to replace the convergence ICs I'm afraid. Then do another alighnment. If you already replacxed the IC's, you most likely did not get the exact replacement ICs recommended by the service manual, but whats called after market type IC's, and they just wont do!.
