Question about Canon PowerShot G5 Digital Camera

"LENS" word shows in lcd. non focusing

No mystery. The heavy, square camera with zero ergonomics for gripping and slippy surface went from hand to floor. I think, hitting lens (likely) word lens shows in lcd, focusing available in macro only and then iffy.
This is a great camera...I cannot bear the thought of burial at sea. I had it a week as a cam swap/gift from my fave cam peddler on Ebay.
The user manual is in Spanish. My second language is French..main is English...but I think I would be sorely challenged to be using any language manual to fix this one On occasion, the white areas of image have black blinking in them.

I dropped my Camera and the word Lens came up in screen. I unscrewed the lens and found that it came right off and screwed it in to the camera again tightly in the grooves it fits in to and it worked perfectly again.

What you are seeing is the focus spot or indicator and it's etched into the mirror so yes you will see this prominently without a lens and considerably sharper with a lens. The square box would be for the light meter and the round circle is your focus point. Nothing is wrong, in fact you can change the focus point on the camera. There is actually 45 focus points 7 which are in the center you need to be able to see these to know where to aim/point the center of the camera.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

How do I get a nikon d80 to use a manual lens

If you mean a manual-focus lens, just focus the lens using the focus ring on it.

If you mean a non-electronic lens, then you need to set the camera to Manual exposure mode. Control the shutter speed by turning the command dial. Control the aperture by turning the aperture ring on the lens. You will get no metering assistance from the camera: you can use another light meter (this includes using a different lens on your camera just to get an exposure reading) or just take pictures and look at the results on the LCD.

to make the green square show up just press the shutter button until half (this is called the half press) when the green square shows up then it means that the camera has focused already, if not repeat the process til green square comes out you can press the shutter button fully to take picture when you see the green square...

My Minolta Z6 used to take clear pictures. Suddenly almost every image became is blurry. I then stored for about a year, now I have cleaned the lense to no avail. Focus l through lcd screen is also now...

I think you may be doing what I have ben doing. The auto focus beam I think emits from the small sender between the hand grip and the lense portion of the camera, ( Bad Design) When gripping the camera my fingers sometimes block the sender and causes it to be blurry as in not focused. .Try to keep your fingers from going in between the grip and lens and I think it will work for you.Let me know if this helps. I am so glad I found this out because this camera takes nice pictures.
