Amplifier - TA-AX380; CD Player - CDP-C40; AM/FM Tuner - ST-JX380; FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver - STR-AV570X, and Stereo Cassette Deck - TC-W380.....all Sony. Very old system, do not have the manuals, they...

Since you have 2 receivers, you can either use the Sony STR-AV570X or the TA-AX380. You will need 3 Stereo RCA Cables to connect your CD Player, Tuner, and Tape Player. The speakers connect to the receiver you choose using the speaker input terminals.

I have an onkyo tx-8255 receiver and i bought a psw-505 polk audio subwoofer to supplement my Boston acoustics cs-26 bookshelf speakers but i cannot get more than the deepest of bass to emit from the sub. ...

The problem is you are dealing with two different brands of speakers, I know because I ran into the same issues you are facing now, I had a Bose sub matched up with two Radio Shack Satellites and sound was not balanced it was awful. Finally I broke down and bought a pair of Bose Satellites and I have never regretted it since. The point I'am making is that when you mix brands the sound will be unpredictable, the problem with most subs is they have a very low roll off frequency even without the crossover making almost impossible to match speakers.

Sony str d-1015 stereo receiver stopped working

if you have been blasting it, that could be why, recievers of this era are made with cheaper parts that cant handle what theyre supposed too,
i dont know specifically, but things like that have some sort of auto fuse...
i would assume, you are using it with wrong ohmage speakers, are you using car speakers? car subs? older speakers?
most home stereo equipment is 8 ohms, i have a set of 140 watt 3 way (10"[vented]/4"/2") as fronts and a set of 80 watt rears (6"[vented]/1.5"/24mm) the fronts are induviduals, meaning they have to be bought individually, and are not sold as a set, or part of anything, the rears were part of a bookshelf system, i got the set secondhand... but i always checked the ohmage...

Something is shorting out and tripping a safety feature that protects the amplifier from damage.

try a few simple steps to see if the problem is internal or external.

First make sure that none of the speaker terminals have any loose strands of wire that could be grounding out the terminal and that no wires from the red terminals are touching the component or the black terminals / wires.

secondly disconnect all but one speaker test it to see if t causes the amp to go into protect do so for the other speakers until one trips the protect mode. If one of the speakers is tripping the protect mode it could be a damaged / blown component.

just for fun make sure your speakers are 8 ohms this can be found on the manufacturers website or in your manual. Its rare but some speakers are 4 ohm and they can cause amplifier issues such as tripping a protect mode.

You may have to evaluate the "value" of the receiver and determine if its worth repairing. Many shops will charge a "diagnostic" fee which may be $40 to $80 and remember that parts and an hours labor may not make good financial sense especially if you are talking a unit that is 5+ years old.

Hope this helps

Subwoofer does not kick in during stereo mode with front speakers

There should be an adjustment in setup that for 2 channel sources, you may have to enable the subwoofer output. Or alternatively, if the subwoofer output for 2 channel sources is in fact enabled, then increase the crossover frequency for the sub.

The relay is a protection device for the speakers. It will shut off the speakers when problems are detected internally. I would suspect that some of the capacitors in the front end are in need of replacing. This is a common item for units this old. I have restored a number of these for customers over the years with much success. Figure about $15-$20 in parts for this repair plus the local labor rate. This unit is definately worth a refurb. What happens is that there is dsome DC voltage being leaked into the final amplification stage. This triggers the protection circuit to shut off the speakers. DC voltage on a speaker will heat up the coil and eventually destroy the speaker.
