Question about Compaq Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Compaq Wireless Optical Mouse (Cat NO: 26-751) isn't responding. I've replaced the batteries on the mouse, and the light on the mouse flashes whenever I do an action (move the mouse, click a button), but its not being received by the receiver (i.e. no lights are turning on on the receiver, no corresponding mouse movement/action on the computer). I tried unplugging the receiver and plugging it back in, restarting the computer.

I've tried pressing the button under the mouse and the button under the receiver (the manual says to press both buttons the first time to "change the channel") in numerous combinations, to no avail.

Some more information: when the mouse started to die, it was very choppy, in the sense that I would move the mouse a certain distance, and the cursor would only move every fraction of a second for a smaller fraction of a second. Normally this corresponded with low batteries, so I changed the batteries. Once I did that, though, the mouse died completely.

  • If it is a wireless mouse then it requires batteries.

  • In case if the advent mouse is a wired mouse then it doesn't require batteries.

hehe, sorry it made me giggle. When you pick up an optical mouse it blinks trying to establish a reading on the surface it's on. Since it's in mid air and there is no surface, it will continually blink until you put it down.

This definately sounds like dirt over the optical lense (given that you are certain the batteries are "good" not simply "unused"). Take a paint brush with about 150 bristles and thuroughly clean inside the hole on the bottom of the mouse that emits the light.

Wireless mouse will not connect or respond

Insert the new batteries, making sure that the positive(+) and negative (-) ends of each battery match the polarity indicators inside the battery housing.
When replacing the batteries, you may use
alkaline or other heavy-duty NiMH batteries. Never use an
alkaline with a NiMH battery in a device.
Avoid mixing new and used batteries in a device. Slide the battery cover back into position until it “clicks” firmly into place. Turn on the mouse be sliding the on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse to the “on” position.
The optical sensor, located on the bottom of the mouse, glows red.
6 Just somethings to check, One other thing to take a peek at, on the transmitter look to see is there is a tiny button that may say connect or reconnect. You may need a pen if you have chubby fingers like me.
Hope this helped, please leave a rating,
thank you kindly

Wireless mouse not working

Try to replace the batteries in it. It may be acting strange due to low batteries. If this does not help you try testing out on another system and post results.

I recently bought a Compaq Wireless Desktop w/Optical Mouse (Gry/Sil) at a yard sale and did not recieve the instalition cd where can i download the program at online so i can use it on my computer

As long as you have the wireless reciever and the mouse, and a fresh pair of batteries theres no reason why it should not work. Its simply a plug and play device.

In fact, I wouldnt be surprised at all if Logitech manufactures their mice for Compaq and sticks the Compaq name on it instead.

When you say you pressed the connect buttons on both the keyboard and mouse, do you mean you pressed the connect button on the receiver, and then you pressed the connect buttons on the mouse and keyboard? If not, then that's what you have to do. The 30 seconds of blinking on the receiver is normal, as it gives you time to find and press the buttons on the mouse and keyboard.

I hope this helps, and good luck!
