What you need is a copy program. Roxio, nero, copyX, Xcopy, any one of those and any version that works with your OS (XP,ME,98) You can go online and search for freeware. You want to look for "batch" capibility(more than one copy at a time)
You can purchase the simplest ones at computer store like micrcenter, frys, tigerdirect. Some are as low as 5 bucks.

I AM UNABLE TO COPY VIDEOS FROM TAPE TO PC

Welcome to FixYa!

Copying from TAPE to PC requires 4 things. The video cam where the TAPE will be played, a FIREWIRE compatible cable, a FIREWIRE card installed on your computer and a SOFTWARE that supports a firewire device that would record the video.

Unlike Digital Videos that you can just copy and paste the video file from the video cam to the computer, the tape to pc transfer is more of recording the video in from the video cam by playing it in real time while the computer is recording it.

This is a sample of a FIREWIRE card that is installed inside a computer.
An external USB version of this is also available.

Windows MOVIE MAKER is an example of a software that can be used to record the videos. It supports FIREWIRE devices.

Here's a sample video.

Mini-DVD playback

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900000562/DC210NIM-EN.pdf here is the manual look on page 62 for playback on a pc. you need a dvdrom drive. if you have one make sure you have software like windows media player 10 or 11, or powerdvd to play the movie. as for editing the video is a little bit more tricky. you are going to have to "rip" the video and then combine it in a program like windows movie maker with the other dvd that has been ripped too. when you are done editing in windows movie maker just choose avi or dvd type.

I can not seem to copy dvds onto my hard drive to

extremely difficult because of copy write protection. Requires special software and not all of it works all the time. Look for software on the internet. You will find some free programs to try. The illegal guys have made it hard for those who buy legitimate and just want to copy their own stuff.

Can you copy your tapes to a computer?

Hello friend,
The Canon ZR40 Mini DV Camcorder has the port "Firewire" so you can copy your tapes to a computer. you will need to check your computer if it has also a firewire socket (All the new laptops have it).
You don't need any drive software, Windows has all the necessary drivers built in. You can use Windows Movie Maker for the capture, but if you want to burn your finished movies onto DVD then look at something like Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 which is one stop shop application (Capture, edit and burn). you can download a 30 days trial and try it out and see if it's what you want before buying it.
Best Regards,

Trying to copy a mini DVD that I toke using my Sony Handycam to a normal DVD

Unless you have a DVD copy program such as "Nero" on your machine a way to do this would be to "Import" the content of your Mini into Windows Movie Maker, edit it if you need to and then write it out to a normal DVD on your PC's drive.

How to convert mini dv into cd. Does it require data cable or some special software to do so.

smartjanivj,

This depends on what kind of CD you wish to make. If you simply wish to put the videos on the CD as data to be viewed later on another computer, you can transfer the video into windows movie maker (most PC's come with this free program) with File > Import video from Digital Video Camera, and then your movie can be saved via File > Publish Movie. Select "This Computer" and click Next. Select a name for your movie and the directory in which you want to save the file and click Next. Then adjust any final settings and click Publish. Then you can burn that file onto a CD.

However if you wish to make a DVD, follow the same steps as above but instead of selecting "This Computer", select "DVD". NOTE This step only works if you also have Windows DVD Maker installed.

Both Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD maker can be downloaded for free off the internet, if they are not already on your computer.

Hope this helps :)

How to make copies???????

Not sure whether you have a PC hardware or software problem. Do you have a DVD drive on your PC ? If you have, then this should work
1. Finalise the mini DVD on the DC210.
2. The mini DVD will have one folder on it called VIDEO_TS. Copy this folder to a new folder on your PC hard drive.
3. Put a writable DVD into your PC DVD drive.
4. Copy the folder you created in step 2 to your DVD.
Job finished !

If you want to edit the vieo content you'll need to get some video editing software.
