When I am writing a legtter on Incredimail and hit the question mark I get an E with a French accent. Writing to you, and I hit the same key I get what I want - a question mark. What should I do to...

Linda, you need to remove unused keyboard languages from the control panel, look under regional settings... Sometimes this is really buried, but in essence, you need to remove/delete unneeded keyboards.

When I type, sometimes a key types a french letter with an accent. How do I get it back to the english version? Also, my number pad to the right of the main keyboard doesn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure the NUM LOCK key is on. Your number key pad won't work if it's not on. As far as the French letters with accents, when the Enable indicator on taskbar check box is selected, and you have two or more languages installed, an indicator that represents the default language appears on the Windows taskbar. To switch between languages quickly, click the indicator, and then click the language you want to use. You can also use shortcut keys to switch between languages while you type. Select one of the switch languages options on the Language tab to set the shortcut keys.

I cannot get apostrophes or question marks. Instead I get French accented letters. Can you help me

Press Ctrl+Shift at the same time. Toggles the French (blue) keys on & off. I found out after much tedious searching. Hope this helps you!

How to make french accents marks on a laptop that doesn't have a number pad

You need to tell windows it has a french keyboard:

In the control panel, go to regional and language options.
Go to the keyboards and languages tab, click change keyboards. On the window that pops up, click on the general tab. You probably have just the us keyboard installed. Click add, then choose either english-canada or french-france, then click to add the french keyboard. Click preview to see where the accent keys will be (so you can find them). Now, select the french keyboard and click 'move up' so the french keyboard is above the us english one.

Voila!

Hope this helps. Post a comment if you get stuck.

On my logitech keyboard Y-BH52 my back slash, comma, forward slash and bracket keys are typing in what looks to be french characters such as A's with accents on them...if you could provide any assistance...

hmmm it seems by mistake you have changed your key-board layout to french language.
  • Hold down Alt and press Shift. (Alt+Shift). Check the result by pressing thoes keys. If its back to original means you have installed both English/French both and can toggle pressing Alt+Shift.
  • Otherwise goto Start -> Control Panel -> Regional And Language Option.
  • Click on Language Tab, then Details button.
  • Now in settings tab you can see the languages installed on your system. You can remove un-wanted or/and select a default languages which you want.

Please post your feed-back
Thanks
