I just purchased a new M-6319 gateway laptop. It has vista software.
I have had the computer maybe three days. In that time it has frozen up approximately 5 times. (it has frozen when I was ripping cd's, and when I've used the works word processor.) It would not respond to cont/alt/del. I finally have to hold the power button down to turn it off.
Is this a problem that is common with this model? If so I will look for another computer. I am starting college in a month and need something reliable. I have even purchased a small fan pad to help it stay cool, and still, it keeps freezing up. Any help or suggestions?

Re: New M6319 laptop freezing up
This will be with the memory or a software conflict. To be perfectly honest, this machine shouldn't be doing this since it's only three days old. I would take it back for an exchange. This is a good model and this is not a common problem with these. If you exchange it for the same model I think you'll find that this is a good machine and you'll see that it shouldn't lock up. I've got a Gateway that is approx two years old and it hasn't locked up five times since I've had it. Occasionally, yes, but five times in it's first three days, no. You're going to have bigger problems if you keep it.

The vista os has an energy complince control
you can set your laptop to never goto sleep in the system control or it maybe in the monitor control panel but this will not allow it to blank out on ya and save a little time in tasks the haven to restart may be a time for a service update ( I myself just got Vista spv2 Its worken for me so check for updates
dv9000 are notorious for failing, even when repaired. The newest model to that, maybe the G70 or even the G60 is a good replacement. Even if the laptop comes to you with Vista, Windows 7 will over-right and install over it with no problens. I was one of the Beta Testers and never had a failure during an update....the new operating system is absolutely loaded with all kinds of device drivers, so you should be good to go.

Disk defragging maybe not enough. The problem can be caused by various hidden Windows errors. They firstly cause your Acer slow, and then freeze up occasionally. One day crash all of a sudden! To quickly handle the issues, it is recommended to use an Acer speed up software to scan your Aspire. See how to from: http://www.speedupacer.com/
