Kenmore 90 Series Washer Noise--Won't spin

Model 22912 100

Washer mortor runs (makes a loud sound--not grinding noise but a loud low whine or roar) but won't spin--it is NOT the coupler though. Any thoughts?

When the water is running for the fill, wash, and rinse cycle, there's a loud low vibration humming noise. If I turn it off and back on again, the sound would go away, sometimes, but eventually come back. Is this the washing machine or my water pipes? Would this cost over $100 to fix?...if so, I would probably get another washer, right? -TE

For Tegres
If the noise is only when there is water flowing, check tighten the screws that mount the water fill solenoid valves to the case. The solenoids operate on line current so they vibrate at 60/50Hz (local suppply frequency) if they are loose at all, the noise is loud the body acts as resonators

For SRONEAL, that symptom describes coupling failure exactly, have you removed the coupling to check, often times the motor side hub is stripped, but there is no visible external damage

It sounds like the transmission is done. Can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I would start there.

My Kenmore 80 series washer won't spin, and it just makes a loud gear grinding noise. What could this be, and how do I fix, in the simplest form please I'm chick... :)

rebecca it is probably the motor coupler. Move or slide ur machine over and if there is ruber filings under it then it is the coupler.

Series 90 with loud buzzing/grinding noise, won't spin

It could have gone out of balance. See if the drum looks off center and center it if necessary. Turn it off and back on to reset the switch. If that doesn't work, try pressing on the lid either 2/3 of the way back on the right or all the way back on the left (depends on the model -- try both) and see if it starts. If it does, I would suspect the lid switch.

Sounds like you have a broken motor coupler. They are inexpensive. Can be a little tough to replace but I can walk you through it. You can purchase a coupler here.
