If it is updating it will take a while to load updates. Once all the updates are installed it should Boot and shut down faster. Just let it finish the updates. do not disturb until finished.

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

My computer says I'm missing esapp.dll & ltdis10n.dll. How do I fix that?

This may be due some or all of the following reason: Corrupt file-system, corrupt registry entry, improper/incomplete device driver installation or software installation or may be due to a virus infection.
Make sure you have a backup of important files/photos/documents in your system.
Try repairing you file-system using check disk utility that comes with windows. Repair your registry using a registry tool. Update the device driver or the application. esapp.dll & ltdis10n.dll belongs to Kodak Easy Share application. First completely remove the application and try reinstalling it. Have a full system virus scan with latest virus definition update.
Update your windows system with current patches and fixes using Windows Update utility.
All the best

I replaced the hard drive with a seagate barracuda. Now my monitor is blank. I hooked it with my laptop and it works fine. Any ideas?

I take you to indicate that the computer does not even POST at power on. That would indicate that you may have another hardware problem, Check all connections for the starting with the ATX power connector, make sure that the RAM sticks are still seated, etc. You may have to backtrack to plugging in the old drive and make sure that the system will still run that way. If it just will not start with the new drive, perhaps there is a compatability issue, in which a BIOS update from Dell may fix.

Hi:
Basically, you need to do four steps:
1) Run the Windows OS installation
2) Install all drivers off of the driver CD
3)Install programs and software that came with the computer, or ones that you added .
4) Connect to the internet, and validate your copy of windows, and run Windows Update again and again, until there are no more updates to download.

Monitor says no signal

you should try resetting the BIOS (either by changing the right jumper, or by pulling out the CMOS battery, or whatever religious ritual your brand of motherboard requires, such as sacrificing a chicken on the keyboard), because it sounds like you've got a problem with one of the busses (e.g. the PCI bus, the AGP bus, the Chicago-bound Bus, or whatever). It may only be a software problem, which you might be able to get rid of by resetting the BIOS; but if your computer still displays the same vital signs as an ashtray, then you've got a more serious problem on your hands. Post back here and we'll see then.

Can't reboot dell 4100 dimension desktop

First put the hdd installation cd into the cd drive and try to boot. This should install the hdd driver as well as start formatting the new hdd. After the drive is formatted take out the hdd cd & insert the Windows installation cd into the drive. Boot. Windows should start installing on your new drive. After Windows is installed check the Dell support site for updated drivers for your system. Install drivers as needed. Any other software you had on your old drive will need to be reinstalled to the new drive. Hope this helps & please rate my answer. Thanks.

Maxtor IDE Hard Drive

You hard drive has drivers and was set to a different computer, thus enviroment. To make that hard drive work on your new computer - the Operating System will have to have a repair done to it - if you do a repair - you will not lose any docs or email, but, you will have to re-install programs to see the re-done Operating System, then you will have to load all the drivers that operate your new dell computer - if the new dell was not designed for XP and only vista - it will never read that Hard Drive till you install Vista on it.
