My akia gx 625 does not turn at required speed. What needs to be completed to resolve issue

The last time I had one of those and I do not work on them too often on purpose is the capstan shaft was glazed and the Pinch roller was never cleaned. There are ways to deal with the problems but most people are too lazy so they take it to a Technician. The Pinch roller if hard needs to go to Terry for rebuild and the capstan shaft can be reconditioned. The motor needs oiling. Akai used some bad transistors in their units that make noise and have other problems and the glue they used on the PCB sometimes eats the foils away.

I have Akai gx 230. Its doinf Rew and FF but Play not working, though engages. Tape does not move. Can it be tape threading problem?

Could be either. If you can do some testing, check for power to the capstan motor in play configuration. If there is power at the motor terminals, the motor itself may have failed.

The tape cassette doesnt rewind

This can be a toughy without having the unit but the Chinese decks (After 1992 vintage) all but the expensive units and here are the makes they are using the same mechanism. This deck has two belts and the one is from the motor to the capstan and the other is fed from the capstan (under the flywheel) to the fast forward and rewind mechanism. If the fast forward is okay and the tape plays okay then the belts sre working and the rewind gear is out of position and if you are lucky then all you do is to push the left reel spindle in and replace the small plastics circlip which by the way do come loose sometimes. If that does not help then is it sometimes cheaper to buy a cheap portable set and fit that into your deck The motor on some is on the side and others sort of on top depending if it is a top loading or front loading machineI have seen these same mechanism in the following makes Philips Telefunken Akai Sony Teac Supersonic Roadstar and so on I hope this help.

SERVO CAPSTAN MOTOR FOR REAL TO REAL AKAI GX-77

Check power drive circuit and ohm out traces on control board. The glue they used has been known to conduct and corrode through the foil traces that go to the control circuits.

I have a Teac A-6300 that won't go fast forward or reverse but the capstan motor is running

The Capstan motor is just for the play speed regulation so it has nothing to do with the reel motors. You can have an open safety microswitch or maybe a bad relay. It is really hard to say without looking at the unit but I am sure it is repairable. Is the right dummy plug put in the back? This can stop all transport functions if it is out.

I have an AKAI GX-4000D reel to reel machine. It plays small 3" tapes at the right speed, but when I try and play a 7" tape, the sounds are very, very fast and I can't make out what's being...

Hello,
Yes, that seems to be your problem.

Regardless of the size of reel.
When the:
Capstan sleeve installed is 7 1/2 IPS
Capstan sleeve not installed is 3 3/4 IPS
Hope this helps.

Motor for Akai GXC-740D Casette Deck

Hi pelagic

The motor is probably faulty. The heat is a give away for that. Many motors for older decks can still be sourced. Can you see what part numbers may be on the back plate of the motor and I can find a source for you. Awaiting your reply
