Question about Logitech Keyboards&Mouses: MX500 Optical Mouse (MOLTMX500)

My USB mouse is not detected by Windows after I plugged in the device. what can i do? New computer with Vista will not recognize this mouse or download thereof. Is there a fix? If not, is there another Logitech mouse that can be programmed with a "double click"?

    USB port not the problem. It is recognized as 2nd HID-compliant mouse, having only basic functions, am not able to program optional button functions.

    After doing further research, I've determined that this mouse is not compatible with Windows Vista.........it can be used only as a normal functioning HID-compliant mouse, but cannot be programmed for any other of it's capabilities. Thanks for trying to help! If anyone has, or can recommend, a mouse with a "double click" optional button, please let me know.

Go to my computer then control panel then select mouse then you can troubleshoot there your mouse there.

Try to connect the mouse on another USB port and see if it will work, because sometimes this can only be a bad usb port , if you can also try to connect on another computer to check it will work..

    I have a mx518 here, the light in the bottom comes on when its pluged in. if it doesn't come up, you got a broken cord or a faulty mouse.

Heello dougandjanis,

first of all, make sure your USB port is working, you can try that by plugging another USB device in.

Then to check that the mouse USB is working, once you have connected it, go to:
start >(righ-click)Mycomputer>select manage>select device manager> (look in the (?) tab. see if your mouse is listed there.

USB hard drive is a portable external storage device that works just like a conventional hard drive. The device is simply plugged into a USB port on your computer as you would connect a flash drive. Unlike a flash drive, however, a USB hard drive can store a much larger amount of data. If your computer will not recognize your USB hard drive, you can try troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

Plug one end of the USB cable into the port on your hard drive and plug the other end into the USB port of your computer. Ensure that both ends of the cable are connected securely. Open "My Computer" (Windows XP) or "Computer" (Windows Vista/7). The USB device should be listed as "removable disk" once it is plugged into the computer. If it is not listed among the available drives on your computer, proceed to the next step. Ensure that the data cable is working properly. Try another USB cable if you have one available. Disconnect all other USB devices from the computer as they may interfere with the operating system detecting the external hard drive. Reboot the computer if the USB hard drive is still not recognized. Plug the USB cable into another USB port and check to see if the device is detected. If you are using a USB hub, remove the device and plug the external hard drive directly into a USB port. Computer not recognizing hard drive. Seems to be a problem with usb connection. Can I put the drive into another enclosure?


Definitely you can try with different enclosure, and it will work in any enclosure... But before buying a new enclosure it would be better if you try to connect the hard drive in a different computer to isolate where the issue is...

  • Check system requirements. - iPod nano (5th generation) requires the following minimum versions of Windows: either Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later), Vista or Windows 7. If you have one of these versions of Windows, verify that Windows is fully up to date by downloading and installing software updates from Microsoft. If you have Windows XP with Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 2, download and install Service Pack 3 using Windows Update.

  • iTunes online? - Confirm that iTunes has been downloaded and installed.

  • AMDS online? - iPod nano requires Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS), which should be automatically installed with iTunes. To verify whether it is installed, click Start > Control Panel. Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs. If it is not, remove and reinstall iTunes.

  • Check USB connection. - Disconnect all USB devices from the system with the exception of the iPod nano and any USB keyboard and mouse. Then restart your computer. Verify that you are using a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Test with an alternate iPod USB cable if one is available.

  • AMDS - Re-verify that AMDS is running and installed.

  • iTunes usage - Remove and reinstall iTunes.

Computer does not recognize the device


Plug your Tablet in first with Computer off, Turn on Computer and see if Vista recognizes the Tablet. Go by what is suggested on the screen. It may help to do a Hard Disc DeFrag. before attempting the above.

Targus mouse not recognized


What is the OS of your computer? This Targus mouse would work with Win 98, Win 2000 and Win XP. Vista was not mentioned. And if you are running Windows Vista for you laptop, then that could be the reason why it was not recognized by the computer.

Is this the wireless optical mouse? If yes, you need to follow the steps below to isolate the problem:

1. Connect the USB receiver into different USB ports of the computer.
2. Replace the batteries with the fresh ones.
3. Try connecting the mouse into different computer to see if you've got a defective mouse.

If you've tried everything and got the same problem, you may need to refer to the manufacturer, because I'm not sure if this mouse is a Plug-n-Play device or if it needs a driver.
