Gateway Xp tower lights turn on, but monitor does not respond; it reads "no signal"

"No signal found" is a generic display from a monitor that is not receiving a signal from the input cable. Your tower, however, may or may not be functioning. If you have another source to connect the monitor to (laptop or other PC) you can try that. Most monitors have a "menu" button. You could press that to see if a menu is displayed on the monitor, That will indicate that the monitor is working as a stand-alone. It will also indicate which input source is being used. If the input source is incorrect, then no signal is being received from the incorrect source. As far as the tower is concerned, the are a myriad of causes for no signal to the monitor. It could be unbootable due to a hardware failure at the mainboard level or the power supply. If you hear a single beep then the main board has passed it's diagnostic testing successfully (memory is ok, chips and CPU are ok). If you hear more than a single beep, the main board is having a problem. If a single beep occurs, them most likely it is the graphics controller. any other failure would be displayed on the monitor. If the graphics controller is on the main board, then you will need to install a new graphics card, bypassing the main board's controller. Was this a working system at one time?

When I turn my computer on, my monitor displays a message of 'vga signal, no vga input signal' and 'dvi signal, no dvi input signal' and 'monitor going to sleep'. My cables are...

The symptoms you described is common in fault mobo or VGA card. But VGA doesn,t turn bad so easy.I suggest to change your mobo first.

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

No input signal

that is the problem of cpu not a monitor to confirm disconnect signal cable and power on. monitor will show "no signal check signal cable" it means that monitor is ok and fault lies in cpu .then open the cpu and disconnect ram and listen the beep. contineus beep should be heard then ram is faulty replace it. if no beep heard then motherboard is faulty .

Cpu says no input vga signal, then goes to sleep

The no input VGA signal just means that the monitor is not receiving anything from the graphic card on the tower. Is the card a digital (DVI) output card? You'll know by the connector, it's white and slightly wider than a standard VGA connector. If so, perhaps the monitor is set to the wrong input?

If that isn't the case, and the computer is using an on-board or built-in graphics controller, you could try resetting the system's CMOS settings by setting the clear-settings jumper on the system board, or simply remove the plug and CMOS battery for a few minutes. Check the computer's documentation on the exact steps to do this.

Hope this helps!

Desktop monitor

Hi

Disconnect the monitor from the tower and then turn on the monitor.
If u get a msg like no input signal or check video cable then the monitor is fine. If this is the case, it could be a problem with the tower or the cable.
