Hi

You could try to go to computer properties
device manager

scroll down to mouse and pointing devices
then un install the touchpad

then restart laptop and windows hopefully will reinstall it correctly on startup

if this does not work

then go to the laptops computer manufacter's website and download another driver and install it
making sure that it is the correct one for your make model and operating system

as i don't know which laptop you have maybe if an acer www.acer.com go to support/downloads
and search for the driver if hp www.hp.com support/downloads etc

I turned off my touch pad to my acer aspire 5733z and it wont turn bk on

Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard.

The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color.

Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.

The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.

Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.

Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works.

Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.

hope this helps

Touch pad malfunctioning

Inorder to fix the Touchpad issue, try the hard reset steps:

Sometimes it is necessary to do a hard reset to erase all of the information in the temporary memory and regain functionality of your PC when it stops responding. For example, doing a hard reset is helpful if your keyboard quits responding, you cannot get your PC to come out of hibernation or sleep mode, or if a software program causes the PC to freeze.
The hard reset will not delete saved files on the hard drive.
Hard Reset Procedure:
1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery pack.
3. Hold the Power button down for 2 minutes.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and Battery.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

Also make sure that touchpad button is On. It will be just above the touchpad area where you can see the white led which shows that touchpad is on. If the led is in orange, touchpad is off.

If these steps does not work, update the BIOS version from HP website .

In rare case if the issue still persists, you need to restore the notebook to factory settings using Recovery Manager or recovery discs.

Before performing recovery, you need to backup all your data to external hard drive because it will erase the data from the hard drive:

Vista F11 procedure:
1. Reboot the notebook PC.
2. Press F11 when the HP logo displays.
3. When the Recovery Manager appears, click Next .
4. When prompted to use the Microsoft System Restore program, select No and click Next .
5. When prompted to use the System Recovery, select Yes and click Next .
6. Select the option to perform the recovery without backing up files and click Next .

The recovery process will return your PC to the factory image.

or

On some notebooks, the TouchPad can be turned off by pressing an on/off button located near the TouchPad. If the notebook does not have such an on/off button, you can still disable the TouchPad in its settings control panel.
NOTE: You will need to use an external mouse or some other pointing device to control the cursor when the TouchPad is disabled.
To disable the TouchPad:
Click Start , enter mouse in the search field, and then select the Mouse control panel program from the search results.
On the Device Settings tab of the Mouse Properties panel, click the Disable button to turn off the TouchPad.
The TouchPad can be re-enabled when needed.

Fatal alert

This is a common problem with the Tungsten line, You can try doing a hard reset. This worked for my E2. If that doesn't work, the battery must be removed for a few hours. Although it still may not work after the battery removal.

** To preform a hard reset, hold down the power button, and push the reset button on the back of the unit. The top of your stylus unscrews to expose a "plastic pin" for this purpose. Keep holding down the reset button while the unit reboots. You should see a palm screen displayed while it restarts, let go of the power button and follow the instructions. Pressing up on the pad ring should erase all data.
