The crankshaft needs to be wedged through the spark plug hole to prevent it from spinning while the screw is loosened.

Using a small but long screwdriver, remove the screw attaching the clutch assembly to the shaft. The screw can be found by looking down hollow shaft of clutch assembly.

How do I replace the upper drive shaft on a Ryobi RBC430SEC brushcutter?

I couldn't find this model on google, but when replacing drive shafts in most brushcutters we used to slide the cutting head / gear assembly off the bottom of the shaft, remove the circlip holding the drive shaft if there was one, slide out the shaft from its square hole in the clutch at the motor end. If the shaft was broken we'd slide the motor part off the shaft to get the broken part of the shaft out.

How to replace the spool head

Once you remove the spool cap and the spool, you cannot remove the head from the motor. It is not a replacement part.

Need to remove flywheel ryobi RLH1100 mark2

hello sir, ryobi trimmers and other models removal of the bell housing, removal of the metal bell housing,or clutch drum, on models 780R & 790R, here is what you do. after removing the trimmer & shaft assembly.remove the spark plug insert a screwdriver in the cylinder to keep piston from moveing. to remove the bell housing twist off the spring and using a T20 TORX screwdriver unscrew the retaining screw in the center of the bell housing (normal r/h thread) . push down firmely try not to strip screw head . you should be able to remove clutch housing.remove clutch using a pair of channel locks, works for me, (normal r/h thread) you should be able to remove front engine cover to repair what you need to.coil, pull stsrt, hope this works,. this solution applies to all trimmers with clutch removal~~~hope this helps,,any comments welcome, thank you. 11

I was given a used 31cc trimmer but can't get the spool off to replace it. how do i do this?

A typical trimmer has a small bump knob, an inner spool with the plastic string wound on it and the housing for that which is the string head.To remove the small bump knob, hold string head firmly and turn the bump knob counterclockwise. To remove the head entirely, first remove the bump knob. Next, remove the inner spool with string. What should be left is the spring with the end of the gear shaft showing. Some heads are locked on and some just slip over the end of the shaft. Check the gear drive just above the string head for any holes in the collar. An object can be placed in one of the holes to lock the drive and twist the head off.Ryobi's use retaining clips on the shaft which have to be removed.

Ryobi trimmer not spinning, the motor runs fine, I think the friction clutch is worn.

Either the cintrifugal clutch is not engaging(if that model has one). Or the drive cable is snaped, or the rotary head drive lug is stripped. Pull off the drive head(where the nylon cord goes) & behind it is a flexable cable that transmits drive from the motor to the drive head(bobbin).pull it out and see if its broken.Check The rotary drive head lug,its on the top of the drive head (bobbin) you removed.
hope this helps

I have Ryobi BC30, that will not recoil. How can I fix this. I took the shaft off, then undid the screws that hold the plastic (gray) housing, but I still cannot get to the cord. How do I get in there?

You have to remove the motor from the housing. To do that, you remove the part that connects to the drive cable. Take a #15 TORX screwdriver and put it in where the cable would go. That will allow you to remove the part. Then you will see the clutch. It spins off counterclockwise. You'll have to figure how to hold the shaft while spinning off the clutch. Once the clutch if off, you can remove the motor and starting pulley. You may find the spring has broken. Get a new one and be CAREFUL putting it back in. Once the spring is in, reassemble the rest of the trimmer...Good luck...

The motor want turn the attachments i.e. string on the trimmer or blade on the edger

there is definitely a problem in the drive shaft. check to make sure there's nothing blocking the mal and female ends. if there is, clean it out and lubricate it so that the male will attach to the female slot. also check to see that both ends are not stripped. if the motor portion of it is stripped, which most liekly is out culprit, then it needs to be replaced, or you need to get a new trimmer. if you do, i recommend the Ryobi model CS26 gas trimmer.if the atachment shaft is stripped, the the attachment needs replacement. if you replace the motor portion you need not lubricate the attatchment slot. if the attachment is stripped, it needs to be replaced, but im quite sure the female end in the motor shaft is our problem. it could also be broken inside the shaft. make sure nothing falls out if you hold the attatching ends to the ground.
