I would not be too concerned with this unless the temperatures in the machine are effected. refrigerators with an adaptive defrost control board will sometimes do this.

  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Fan in freezer has stopped working, have defrosted and fridge seems to be cooler.

Simply defrosting the freezer might solve your problem. Sometimes ice can form on the fan or fan motor, and of course, prevents the fan from turning.

If there is ice here, your refrigerator isn't defrosting properly. This sounds like a defrost problem that may need a part replaced. Check out this site for details and photos. Refrigerator Defrost Parts

Fridge not cooling but freezer is maytag model mtb1553ar

Your MTB1553ARA Refrigerator sounds to me like it is not defrosting properly. Look inside the freezer along the back wall and see if a layer of snow is building from top to bottom. To test if defrost will work open the fresh food compartment and look for a small opening were you can turn the defrost timer slowly clockwise until compressor and fans stop running. Click here=> MTB1553ARA Fresh Food Section Control Panel and in that photo you will see the=> 68233-2 Defrost Timer that has a dial in the center I need you to turn clockwise. After the compressor and fans stop I want you to allow the refrigerator to remain off as it is for 30 minutes. The freezer should now be defrosting and if after thirty minutes the refrigerator does not restart on its own then again turn the timer again slowly until it does restart. If you need to restart the fridge this way then the problem is the 68233-2 Defrost Timer Next I will detail how to install the 61001946 Defrost Heater and the=> 61005254 Defrost Thermostat
if the defrost timer is not the reason for this happening. Here is a MTB1553ARA Parts Manual PDF Let me know here how the defrost timer test goes, Thanks Sea Breeze

What is the button in the middle of the temp gage? My refrigerator always seems to be too cold.

It is a defrost button. Defrost the refrigerator when the frost accumulated on the evaporator is about 1/4" thick. To defrost push the defrost button. Be sure to keep the drain pan in place. Defrosting usually takes a few hours. The refrigerator will restart when defrosting ends. Empty water from the drain pan after defrosting. (taken directly out of owners manual)

Refrigerator quit working, now seems to be working

I am not an expert, but seems like when you emptied it out you may have defrosted the system in the time you had it off. What causes it to freeze up may have been the defrost timer not working properly. If the defrost timer is bad after a while it will freeze up again and stop working. Hope this helped

Ice is building in the freezer - I can manually defrost but auto doesn't seem to be working. What do I check - is this something I can fix? I'm pretty handy! Thanks! Noel

WHEN YOU JUST DON'T HAVE THE MODEL NUMBER Yes, tere are tings to check but I need the model number to help you bctter .The problem is most likely the defrost timer. I don't have your model number so I am going by what I can find about a Kenmore Elite.
The defrost timer is located most times insid the fresh food compartment and behind theconteol panel. Usually there is a hole that you can put a flathead screwdriver through and slowly turn the timer clockwise until the refrigerator compressor and fans stop. Let it stay like this for about 25 minuites until the compressor restarts. During this time the refrigerator should be in defrost. Open the freezer and listen for crackling and sizzling noise caused by defrost. If the compressor does not restart turn again clockwise and this will restart. If you nee the defrost timer here is a link below.

Let me know if this don't work and we will need to go mto step 2, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Kenmore side by side refrigerator not cooling

Check inside back wall of the freezer for frost buildup. It would be a sign that the defrost system is not working and the coil inside the back wall is frozen over stopping air circulation to the refrigerator.
Defrost system has a timer that energizes a heater and a defrost termination switch which shuts off the heaters when the coil is warm enough for all ice to be melted. If you have the frost, locate the defrost timer and turn the clutch head screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click, the compressor will shut off and the system will be in defrost. After 18-22 minutes the refrigerator should restart automatically. If it does not restart after 25 Minutes turn the timer screw again to the second click. Refrigerator will then start. Replace the timer.

If it restarts after the 18-22 minutes and does not defrost ether the heater or defrost thermostat is bad.

Whirlpool american fridge

You have a problem in you automatic defrost system. It could be one of the following that is causing it. The defrost timer could be bad, Locate it and rotate the dial Clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one click. The refrigerator will be in the defrost cycle. Wait about 20-30 minutes and if it defrosts and does not restart rotate the dial a little more and it will start. This tells you that the defrost timer is bad. If it does not defrost and restarts after 18-22 minutes the heater or defrost thermostat is bad.
